If you liked Roman Candle you should get his self-titled for certs, it's my favorite Elliott Smith album, and don't worry, it doesn't sound anything like Figure 8.

I'd get my paws on Either/Or if I were you.

Well shit balls and bananas, Surell was wrong. I meant Self Titled when I said Debut. I LOVE the self titled, as I meant to say. It's pretty damned amazing. So I'm presuming Roman Candle and Either/Or are the places to look?

Either/Or isn't that great IMO, but it would definatley be the one to get after those three.

I'd get Either/Or from there actually, it's classic Elliott Smith.. a solid album, just not very memorable compared to the other albums.

I think it has some of his most memorable songs on there. Such as: Angeles, Say Yes, Rose Parade, Ballad of Big Nothing, and Between the Bars.

Love love love Either/Or and growing to adore Roman Candle nearly as much.
Figure 8 is excellent too. What's MB members' opinion on the songs that've come out after his death?

Even though it's not classic, From a Basment on a Hill is pretty good.
Otherwise Either/Or is my favorite.

Well my favourite era of Smith ouput was 94-97, so the s/t and Either/Or. So seeing as New Moon is a collection of songs made during this period that didnt make it onto the albums, i love it. It's strangely uplifting considering the tragedy of it's context, the musicianship is amazing as usual with Smith and the songs have an imagination to them. I would go as far to say as Pretty Mary K [other version] is in my top 5 Smith songs.

As for FABOAH, it's up there with my favourite Smith albums. I'd probably put it third in my ranking, although i cant really decide between it and X/O. I was really impressed with how those involved constructed it - it all flows beautifully and leaves this very haunting haze.

The b-sides/rarities collection is hit and miss, there's some really good stuff there, but some tripe too, just the record label trying to squeeze every last drop out of him i suppose.
