Damn shame he met his end the way he did. His widow Mary Lou Lord is a damn good musician in her own right, though, and you ought to check her out. She's good people.

Either/Or is a really good album but a lot of his stuff can get pretty boring after a while

I think Either/Or is his fourth best album. His last three are just so much better song wise, regardless of production.
