The Slits

OK I really had no idea where to put this, I dunno what genre to call them.

Any one like the Slits?

swim 07-13-2006 06:41 PM

er, the alternative punk band? I never really got into them. They're ok.

cardboard adolescent 07-15-2006 03:52 PM

Do you think you could upload anything? I've been meaning to get something by them for a while.

dracula mountain 07-15-2006 06:48 PM

The Peel Session is golden

Moon Pix 01-26-2007 12:52 PM

I honestly think they were the best band that came out of the whole first wave punk thing in the UK.

babyjayne96 01-30-2007 04:04 AM

they are awesome ari up is fantastic! and i see your a babes and c love fan too!

cardboard adolescent 01-24-2008 07:34 PM

They're touring! And coming near me! I'm excited.

They're amazing, by the way.

GravitySlips 01-25-2008 01:07 PM

The Slits supported Sonic Youth on at least one of their recent tours, unfortunately that was America and not Britain so I missed it.

I have only heard Cut, but it's da bomb. Is their anything else even worth hearng though?

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-25-2008 01:08 PM

Peel Sessions

cardboard adolescent 01-25-2008 01:16 PM

Return of the Giant Slits is great too.

Their version of Heard It Through the Grapevine has to be one of my fave covers. They're a very catchy band.

Molecules 03-03-2008 04:28 PM

i fookin love the Slits, end of story!
that Peel session is amazing, i heard about it for ages but the energy of it just makes up for the fact that they can't really play properly...
to that end what proportion of the amazing 'Cut' was actually written by the Slits themselves? I hear they had alot of help from their producer, not sure if this is true or not...

Regardless, the chaotic, tribal dub-punk beauty of the album just grabs me everytime... and the lyrics are great. and Ari Up is John Lydon's stepdaughter! Xmas at the Lydon household must be an experience...

what's the consensus on the new stuff...? they should stick to playing the old stuff i think

sweet_nothing 03-03-2008 04:45 PM

the Slits? You mean the punk band formed in the late 70's?

that's the one... though they were more of a punk band in spirit than sound methinks

sweet_nothing 03-03-2008 04:57 PM

I think they're pretty good, i mean i don't own any albums but i've heard a couple of songs and seen them in the punk rock movie.

cardboard adolescent 03-03-2008 05:40 PM

What new stuff?

they 'reformed' to tour over the last couple of years, Ari Up and Tessa Pollitt on bass are the only original members remaining.

achoo 03-06-2008 09:21 AM

Lizzie 03-06-2008 04:55 PM

I will concor that Peel Session is amazing
I just listened to them this morning for the first time
My interest is spiked
They are pretty cool

I got into them after hearing Man Next Door on the brilliant Wanna Buy A Bridge? Post Punk compilation - and subsequently got hold of Cut. Such a good album, much more interesting than the majority of punk around at the time.
