We also mustn't forget Oasis' role as the fashion gods of the 90s. Wanting to challenge the norm of rock stars only wearing tight clothes, the Gallagher brothers introduced their own jaw-dropping examples of excellent taste:

Blur

They've both had their moments of brilliance (Parklife, Blur's self titled, Definitely Maybe, Morning Glory), their mixed bags (Great Escape, Be Here Now) and their rubbish (Most of Think Tank, Most of Standing... and Heathen Chemistry). I'm a yank, but they're two of the bands I listen to most consistently, despite most people on this side of the pond only knowing them each for one song. What can I say? They're catchy.
I'll give the nod to Oasis. Noel Gallagher wrote pretty universal stuff that applied to a lot of people, while Damon Albarn wrote smart pop songs that applied more to British society. Although if they were both playing in my town on the same night, I'd go see Blur since I've already seen Oasis live before. As for Oasis' newest album, it's easily the best since Be Here Now. |
I dunno, I've always preferred Blur's arty pretensions over Oasis' swinging for the cheap seats approach... but thats just how I like my music, I guess, leaning towards artiness...
|
Well, that'll pretty much rule Oasis out then. Nothing arty about Oasis, even at their best.
|
Yeah artiness and Oasis are, well two completely opposing concepts... But I do have to admit there's definitely alot of charm and attraction to their everyman anthems...
|
i prefer blur
blur songs are more interesting while most oasis`s songs sounds the same

Bandwagon? really?
I really, truly, completely love Blur.
As for jumping on the bandwagon... well, even if they did, it seems like they hopped on, rode it to the top, and jumped off saying, "We'll go our own way from here." To be honest, though, I always thought Parklife was way too diverse to be considered any single genre, especially Shoegaze. That's what I've always loved about them. |
"They're a joke aren't they? It's just lots of middle class people applauding a bunch of guys who act stupid and write really primitive music. Then people say 'oh it's so honest'"
