I ignored both bands at their heighth of popularity because I thought that they killed Britpop by stealing the sounds of (my favorite) bands like Ride and The Stone Roses and making it something worse.
But anyway, I eventually came around...I like early Oasis a lot better than almost all Blur. But I don't like Oasis after their mid-90s stuff and I really like what Albarn has done lately, especially his band/project, The Good, The Bad, and The Queen. |

I s'pose. All I know is that I didn't much like Britpop after, say, '92-ish. I'm not sure any particular bands are responsible for this -- even my favorites disappointed me greatly after that time.

EDIT: Suede are often overlooked; as they were the ones who pioneered Britpop in the early 90s, when Blur were still busy imitating The Stone Roses & Oasis were still demoing. |

Oasis
Ok, so i just listened to (what's the story) Morning Glory for the first time ever and i was just like WTF why had I not heard of this band earlier.
The whole album was great from beginning to end, so great that i dont think i'll even want to get any more of their albums because there is no way any of them can beat what i just listened to. Oh, and i have to thank the itunes genius toolbar for throwing me the recommendation. |

Their new record was really good I think. Better than Don't Believe The Truth, better than Heathen Chemistry, better than Standing On The Shoulder of Giants. Sometimes I would argue it's better than Be Here Now but i'm undecided if I would go that far back into their catalogue for this one.
Whats The Story, as with all Oasis albums is no lyrical masterpiece, that is true but it's full of tracks that, in many ways, became instant classics of that era. I accept Noel Gallagher for what he was/is really, he's no genius, he won't claim to be but he certainly had a knack for writing accessible, poppy, melodic "pub" rock songs and at times I need stuff like that. The infighting really gets on my nerves too, i'm sick of hearing about it. It doesn't seem to happen as much now, they have grown up to an extent, especially Noel but I was always sick of reading about it. They are brothers, they fight, who cares? Their fights end up in the paper because of their celebrity and the media will spin it in such a way to show Oasis crumbling apart from the inside out but it could just be as easily explained as two brothers arguing. |
