I feel like this sort of thing hits more on a personal level, but "Stone in Focus" by Aphex Twin evokes a strong feeling of loneliness in me. Reminds me of being a kid when everything was simple...
In terms of indie music though I'd check out Rebellion Lies by Arcade Fire for an easy one to attach some emotions to. |

The other day, I looked in on my 2 year old daughter while she was sleeping...she fell asleep watching "Pinocchio" and the menu music was playing the strings from "When You Wish Upon a Star"...it utterly destroyed me..

John Wayne Gacy Jr. by Sufjan Stevens is absolutely tragic. It's about the tragic life of the serial killer. I also think Pink Bullets by the Shins is pretty sad too. Oh and Miss Misery by Elliot Smith of course, pretty emo, but he did kill himself. This isn't really indie but Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt I find pretty devastating.

Thirty Three by the Smashing Pumpkins... makes me think ALOT about the year just gone, or going, and the incredible changes, upheaval I went through in my 33rd year of life.... it' been one heck of a ride, really, and I have to say I leave this year gone by with a feeling of melancholy, but hope... after everything, I am here and feeling fine...
