Just wrote this review for them for the radio station:
Klaxons has followed up their highly acclaimed Xan Valleys EP with their new Myths of the Near Future. Fortunately, they have lived up to their hype producing an infectiously powerful CD, which borders between the approval of indie listeners and rave dancers. What you get from this album is a culmination of clear-cut melodies intermingled with club energy. Songs are varied considerably compared to their EP because the band has seemed to catapult their sound into an agglomeration of indie pop and trance. It is easy for anyone to say what this band could have been with their Xan Valleys EP hype, but please take the CD how it is. It truly distinguishes itself as one of the most pleasantly varied debut CDs of the year. Heavy rotation for these guys.

Do you hate every (British) band that enjoys any kind of commercial success a priori?

Klaxons have managed to creep up to the top spot in my overall charts on last.fm and I don't know how they've done it. I listened to Myths Of The Near Future lots but not more than I listened to Muse, surely? I blame a broken scrobbler.
In December this year I think I'll be naming Myths Of The Near Future as my favourite album of 2007 but there's still a good few months to go so I shouldn't make my mind up yet. Haven't seen much about favourite tracks in this thread. Anybody? Mine are Forgotten Works and Two Receivers (what a great way to start an album). |
