[QUOTE=rev. flying v;570208]the most country songs on their new album. QUOTE]
I think Lisa's Birthday definitely qualifies as country-ish. It's my favorite track off the new one. The album as a whole is better than the last. My favorite is still Dirty South though. I'm an Isbell and Cooley fan first though. Patterson's vocals are a bit much at times. And I see no reason why Carl Perkin's Cadillac couldn't be a mainstream song. I sneak that onto playlists all the time and no one thinks twice.

Just curious if anyone else has gotten their 2009 album yet Fine Print: A Collection of Oddities & Rarities 2001 - 2008. I for the most part stay away from these types of albums because they're usually a collection of crappy songs that didn't make the final cut, but god damn this one is different. It's got probably the best cover of "Like A Rolling Stone" that I've ever heard.

They have a "twang" that at first was very unappealing, but "Uniform" off of Declaration Day, got its hooks in me and they've become growers. Musically an acquired taste, lyrically genuinely awesome.

Any Love For The Drive-By Truckers?
Patterson Hood really tells it like it is about the south. Southern Rock Opera is probably my favorite CD. Decoration Day, Dirty South, and A Blessing and a Curse is my top 4. I also like Live from Austin,TX.
Their documentary The Secret to a Happy Ending, was pretty cool too.

I bought Southern Rock Opera after it was released in 2001. Probably the only album I've ever bought based on the reviews. Great album!
I've never lived in a southern state, but I can relate to a lot of their lyrics. Went to a couple of their shows in Austin, between 2003-2005. Bought Gangstabilly & Pizza Deliverance directly from the band at the second show. They told me I bought the last two original pressings of those albums they had left for sale. I like the Pizza Deliverance album as much as Southern Rock Opera. Great stuff! And if you like their live recordings, here is a link to 635 live shows (and counting.) Drive-By Truckers : Free Music : Free Audio : Download & Streaming : Internet Archive You can listen to the shows and/or download them. Band approved and all for free!
