Yeah but that's in every Smiths song.

Well some songs are better than other's, just like some songs are better than other songs mothers. I still think Meat is Murder is the best Smiths album, though most people say The Queen is Dead.

Now, if you could say The Smiths sound like another indie band, what would you say they sound like? I was thinking of picking up an album by them. I like The Decemberists, Beck, Death Cab, The Shins, Elliott Smith, The Get Up Kids, and some more, but those are the bands I can think of off the top of my head that I listen to. Going by the list of indie bands I like, you think I will like The Smiths? If so, what song should I check out? Thanks!

Just listen to them, it's hard to explain their sound. Pick up The Queen is Dead or Meat is Murder.

Theyre jangly guitar pop and probably the most influential indie band ever.

I'm surprised you don't like them already judging by those bands! Get The Queen Is Dead or Hatful of Hollow.

I went out and got The Sound of The Smiths today, and I absolutely love them! My favorite song off of it thus far (as I have not listened to all of it quite yet) would have to be "This Charming Man". It is almost like when I hear a song, I can pinpoint a band that I just know was influenced by The Smiths. This was def a worthwhile listen, that's for sure.

I love both Morrissey and Marr. The Smiths had a great sound and Morrissey is great at telling a (moody) story and has great delivery. I love them.
