Yes, Virginia
The new CD from the Dresden Dolls came out today. I have mixed feelings about the CD. I liked a few of the tracks more live....while a few others sounded better coming from the recording studio. A few that I really liked live were "Sex Changes" and "Shores of California" both had such energy live that they couldnt catch performing in front of a mic. I liked "Backstabber" more recorded though, just sounded a whole lot better.
The CD as a whole I was a little disappointed with. The first CD was so raw, and it really felt like they were being real with it, and with the emotion. This CD-mind you, its roadrunner records-sounded very refined. Lacked the emotion and the sound that you would get from them live. Also, too many of the tracks were on the slower side. I mean, this CD has no "Girl Anachronism," it just sounds watered down. Compared to their self-titled CD, its overshadowed by far. But on it's own, it's enjoyable. Thoughts? By the way, if you havent seen this duo live, they're direct support for Panic! At the Disco coming up in the next few months. I highly suggest you should go, guarenteed good live show. And I enjoy listening to Panic! At the Disco, they're like a more articulate Fallout Boy, so this concert's going to be great!

Secondly I want to say, that first single "Sing" sucked real bad. That could not have taen more than 10 minutes to write. I was greatly displeased with that track, its put me off from the rest.

Yeah but the fact that you condone "fun" songs (which I think bands should have) means that your bar for realness is subjective and you can apply it when you want to what you want.
If anyone remembers BezerkGorilla or whatever (who wrote the worst song ever in the SW forum), he had this conversation with me outside the boards about eminem. he said "Ya know, em keeps it real, sure he has some joke songs now and again, but hes usually real" My point with him was that all great artists are story tellers, but here im saying your position is either all for or against with the "real" argument, which is why I hate it because songs ought to be judged on a moot point basis. Give me a track to check out, what you'd consider the strongest track on the album and I'll give it a shot.

Wow, which song(s) did you listen to? They are incredibly original in their sound.
