Default Chumbawamba

Now, I've seen some people talk trash about this band on other parts of the forum, but if you've only heard 'Tubthumping,' feel free to keep your mouth shut.

In any case, they are a pretty decent anarchist indie pop band, and are widely misunderstood, seeing as how most of their songs were trashing the very people who elevated their song to international success. They actually got their start playing punk with The Ex (see the punk forum) and didn't really "go pop" until their album "Anarchy" which featured a baby being born on the cover.

Alright. Go check it out.

Sorry but to me they`ll always be a bunch of annoying middle class students to me.

And I hate their 80s material as much as Tubthumping.

But 10/10 for calling your debut album 'Pictures of starving children sells records'

Sorry I have to bump this but I was wondering if anyone had made a thread on this band. How can you call a band that has a hit 20 years after starting a one hit wonder? Stop talking **** if you haven't heard anything before anarchy. I really like chumbawamba as a punk band, and enjoyed Anarchy, but feel that it went downhill from there. Any other opinions? If you hate them, explain why; don't just say that they suck cuz they're a one hit wonder... they're not!

I knew they had some sort of history before Tubthumping, but I imagine it was a very different sound to the shameless pop posturings of tubthumping.... which, I actually is a song that still kinda gets my toes a tappin' and my fingers a clickin'...

They only had one hit, that's the definition of a one hit wonder. It doesn't matter how long they've been around for. A lot of bands that only have one hit song have been around for years and years. It's not a knock on the quality of the band, it's just a commentary on the fact that they only had one really popular song.

Fair enough. I had to bump this, though, when I saw this. Wow. Dunno what the sounds gonna be like, what with their new folksy acoustic sound, but they get major props for recording that while she's still alive. I can't say I've ever seen a band do something like this before (although it's always possible I don't know about it).

i appreciate chumbawumba, they are a band that is not afraid to change their sound radically, experiment, and try out different stuff. honestly i think that is a quality lost
(well maybe not lost, but never found or supported) in the music world. they were experimenting and seemed to happen on a song that just took off and propelled them to one hit wonder status. they have made some good music and continue to explore change. i say more power to them, even if their only popular song sucks.
