Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Who out there is into "Clap Your Hands Say Yeah"?
These guys are excellent, have been compared to Arcade Fire. There are several tracks for download as well as some tracks from Flashy Python and the Body Snatchers, frontman Alec Ounsworth's side project from the link below |
I love psycho killer.

I think they are not bad - but nothing great either.. |
with exception to radio 4, best thing to come out of new york in a long long loooooooooooong time
|
well what else has come out of New York? And if you're refering to CYHASY, well the band is from Boston and the singers from Philly.
|
the rapture, the walkmen, the strokes, fischerspooner, interpol - all new york bands i happen to like. and 4 out of the 5 members live in brooklyn, which is in new york, in case you dont know. Ounsworth writes the songs in philly, but they are virtually completed in NY.

the bravery, good god no, i hope they all choke. but yes, YYY and lcd soundsystem are two bands i like a lot. forgot about them. and reviews/previews are merely one particular persons viewpoint, so yeah, their crap unless you like talking other peoples word for it.

oh sound clips, i like them if the band is up-and-coming. the bravery apeal to me about as much as a bowl of steaming faecal matter. now if you want a great live band, look no further then the warlocks.

fav bands from NY include Radio 4, LCD Soundsystem, Fishcerspooner, Elefant, Stellastar, Ambulance Ltd and Interpol to name a few...
seen all of them live except Radio 4, Elefant and Stellastar (but seeing Stellastar in a month) :) |
Apart from the opening track it's a pretty decent album. Can't see the Arcade Fire reference though, seems like typical lazy journalism.

even 'my coco'?! can't wait to hear that live...
|
i'll give you that, and to be fair i dont think they themselves were particularly bad, the sound system though was dire.
|
ahh.. that would make it crap.. I'm seeing them locally at a small, but loud venue.. hopefully sound will be ok :)
|
Finally heard the album today even though I bought it about 2 weeks ago.
As if by a total coincidence the last album I listened before playing it was 'The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads'. So it`s probably fair to say I would have liked it more had it not been for that. |
I don't really see the Talking Heads' comparisons aside from the voice, but I love CYHSY. Awful live, but still a really good band.
As an aside, I really like the opening. When I first heard it I was hoping the rest of the album would be a little different then your run of the mill Indie Rock. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't, but I still like it. |

good stufffff.
I love these guys so much. |
I have heard sum of their stuff alrite and they are very TALKINHEADS! There defo worth a listen!
|
Alright, I've decided to give these sound stealing Dbags (see photo shoot) a chance, aside from Upon this tidal wave of young blood, what should I listen to?
|
I didn't know they were compared to The Arcade Fire
I actually prefer them though. They piss on the Arcade's Fire and put that baby out. |
I love 'Over and Over Again' such a lovely song

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
I picked up Some Loud Thunder for seven dollars yesterday. I'm trying to figure out why I didn't just buy a pack of smokes instead... I think I would enjoy cancer more.
Why would they do that? |

For everyone that hates this band: no they aren't groundbreaking in they're approach. What happened to love for insanely catchy indie rock? Also, has anyone heard if anything new is coming out from them anytime soon? |
I really like these guys. great sound. I wasn't feeling that they had much similarity with arcade fire though, and then i started listening to arcade fire again and realized how awesome they are too. haha.
but yeah clap your hands say yeah rock. i don't know anything about a new album.. but they are touring. i think they start the tour tomorrow actually. |
Just another band with the carbon copy cute 'indie' sound that seems to reel in Pitchfork so much. Sure, it's not bad, but I really can't tell a lot of these bands from a crowd.
|
i don't think so dude. clap your hands stands out for me. yeah, they are reminiscent of lots of other indie bands but that's always the case. like i can get a bit of a neutral milk hotel feel from them and they've been compared to yo la tango, but there is definitely something unique here. maybe its that voice, all moaning and whiney i love it. but I think it is also their creativity that stands out. like in "Clap Your Hands!" that **** rocks.
pitchfork says that that song is an example of "synthesizing these influences into a sound that's uniquely their own." sooo, yeah lots of influences in there, but definitely a unique sound. at least for me. if you're not into it oh well. |
Did you just try to use Pitchfork as a source of why music is good? That's pushing it, seeing as Pitchfork are always trying to be ironic and post-modern.
This band isn't a 'little bit of everything'. It's more like a copy of distinctions that certain bands carry and melded into one. And least with 'Cymbals Eat Guitars' their vocalist's energy is completely different than the Kinsellas were. That's 90's revival I can fathom. The fact is, if I were to put an album by this band on a player and let it go, people would say: 'Hey, this is the new ______ isn't it?' 'No, it's definitely the new _____ with more of a laid-back feel, you know? I was reading up on IndieToday about it.' 'You're both wrong, this is definitely that hidden track on that _____ album that was released last year, you guys just weren't indie enough to listen through to hear it!' I've tested this before, too. |
Liking bands because pitchfork likes them is bad logic. Dismissing them because pitchfork likes them is just as bad.
I want to adopt you, now, jessicat :) |
I would never dismiss them merely because Pitchfork liked them. I'm not very anti-Pitchfork actually, yet you'd be lying if you said they weren't always trying to be ironic.
Therefore my point still stands. My disdain of this band merely stems from the fact that I've heard it done better, and that their existence is pretty much useless by effect. |

Hey, at least I'm legal ;)
(Well, in a week...) |
haha fight over me. hah wow.
okay in response tho. i dont really give a **** what is "indie" if i like a band i like a band. and i've been listening to this band long before i read pitchfork's review of them. also, if they sound like other bands SO WHAT. this isn't a competition to listen to the most obscure unheard of bands.. just sayin. and excuse me but did you just say that this band's "existence is pretty much useless" because you don't like them? hahahah you matter that much? wow. |
Quote:
No, if you could dissect the sentence, I said that what they do has been done better and therefore them doing a mediocre job of ripping off various 'indie' artists is useless. Therefore, their existence is useless! I couldn't care less if I like them. Hell, when I sat down and listened to an album of their's I didn't hate it. But it's completely worthless to parade around with a sound that's been done to death when you could be being original. 'SO WHAT' you ask? Really? You legitimately feel that even though it's obvious that they blend in with a crowd, even though it's obvious they're not original, SO WHAT? That's a great attitude. So what if somebody's borderline stealing someone else's sound to get famous? So what if it's happened 100 times before and it will happen 100 times after? So what, right? It shouldn't matter, because if you can get personal enjoyment out of morally wrong things, it's enough to justify them. So what, then? I understand you're trying to insult me now by saying I think I matter too much and by implying that I probably try to listen to obscure 'unheard of' bands so I'm just going to end this here. It's obviously worthless trying to discuss things with people who immediately make it personal when you take them out of their comfort zone. |
Look dude, I would sit here and debate with you the morals of the music industry and our way of living, but I don't really like you. So, I'm not going to give you the satisfaction. By posting your dislike of a band in a thread where people are clearly going to argue with you you obviously came in here with the intention of starting something. so, find someone else to bother. :)
|
Last post here, I promise.
Yes, because claiming you dislike something means 'Hey I wanna start friction. I'd especially like to do it so that people get offended and personal about things.' You responded to me. You gave me the satisfaction of response once. You've actually done is 3 or 4 times now. If anybody 'bothered' anybody, it was you bothering me. I can post the way I feel, and you can respond, but then when I respond back, I'm somehow just being rude? Forget the morals of the music industry; this goes a little bit deeper. And really, you dislike me? Can't two people converse over something without somebody making it personal? If I was really that excessive in saying how bland and unoriginal this band is, sorry, my intents were not to upset you. Please, don't bother responding. I get it. You dislike me because when I say I dislike a band and give good reason for it, this personally offends you. |
