That's not original at all.

Yah, and they're strongly influenced by him. But they still sound completaly different. Escpecially if you count Levine's voice. But of course that has nothing to with their originality.

Not many vocalists sound like Jack White but I wouldn't call the White Stripes original and no they really don't sound much different from some of Prince's stuff.

why is it that when ProggyMan was being upfront with me everyone was hiding away! It's like a fight in a bar where everyone unconsciously forms a ring around people who fight.

now... enough of this thread.

They're far more melodic.

Prince isn't as strongly influenced by Jazz either.

You're really really focusing too heavily on Maroon 5s jazz influence. The thing about that influence is it really isn't that big of one or if it is, it's just not apparent.

I said, "Pop and funk isn't something that many people have experimented with, especially currently." Would their influence be more along the lines of jazz or funk? Any who, I stand by that statement.

Actually it has been, ever heard of Prince? Gnarls Barkley? Michael Jackson? Janet Jackson? Red Hot Chili Peppers? Joss Stone? The Clash? Jimi Hendrix? Stevie Wonder? Tons of bands have combined pop and funk, some have based their careers around it. Maroon 5 aren't doing anything new, tons of artists, especially that whole BET scene have incorporate funk elements into their music. They're not nearly as original as everyone is playing them out to be. For current mainstream radio, yeah but when you're original in comparison to Fergie that really isn't saying shit.
