bright eyes is always getting either too much love or too much hate. i wouldn't call him a music god or anything close. but talentless? he might be a self-important, oversinging prick, but he can write his ass off. i happen to like most of his music as well.

bungalow 03-07-2006 07:59 PM

Yeah, he is a great songwriter.
The only thing I dont like is how he goes off into almost childlike babbles in the middle of some of his songs. He is always getting hated on, but I quite like everything he has done.

Bleeding.Mascara 04-25-2006 10:43 AM

Bright Eyes.

I'm not sure if anyone has already made a thread about these guys.
Oh well.
I love them, alot.
Anyone else?

ACellistofCores 04-25-2006 01:23 PM

They are awesome. I'm madly in love. I'm sure someone has made a post about them on here. Saddle creek webboard has gone to ****. Its nice that someone talks about them.

bungalow 04-25-2006 02:10 PM

That someone talks about him? You make it seem like a rare occurence, everyone and their brother knows who Bright Eyes is, even though they've for the most part only listened to I'm Wide Awake It's Morning.

venn diagrams 04-25-2006 03:06 PM

Bright Eyes is way too popular for its own good, actually. I kind of like it though, when he's not being too whiny or overdramatic.

swim 04-25-2006 03:07 PM

Conor's an ass but writes good music.

.angie. 04-25-2006 03:13 PM

I love Bright Eyes.
A lot
Pretty sure they're my favorite.

bungalow 04-25-2006 03:27 PM

Why do people refer to Bright Eyes as them? Its just one person.

swim 04-25-2006 03:30 PM

It bothers me too.

Fevers and Mirrors is my favorite but I like everything Conor's written.

ACellistofCores 04-25-2006 04:15 PM

Actually no, bright eyes isn't one person. Mike Mogis is the other "full-time" member. Fevers and mirrors is good but Lifted is the best.

Yeah, cause Conor plays all the instruments on the album right? Anyway, Bright Eyes is probaly my favorite ever, too many songs I like best to list, Letting Off Happiness is my favorite album.

Was that sarcasm? Oberst has a band (not sure how many people, but I know there's at least on other person in Bright Eyes) that he never acknowledges.

Hey/they suck[s], anyway.

Yes I was being sarcastic, I don't see the problem with referring to bright eyes as him or them. But, referring to bright eyes as him is nicer seeing as his band gets 0 credit.

Yes, but there's more than one person almost all the time.
So "them" works.
It's wrong, but it works.

Avril Lavigne has a band, but we don't refer to her as 'them' now do we?

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 04-25-2006 08:23 PM

^theres a difference. Bright Eyes didn't debut as the name of their frontman, Avril Lavigne and her band did that.

Anyway.. I don't have all that much by Briight Eyes on my computer but what I do have I'm not all that impressed by. I will give Conor Oberst credit though, he did manage to capture a lot of fans with music that, to me, doesn't sound like much more than a guy who decided to pick up a guitar one random day and struck gold with a record company.

bungalow 04-25-2006 08:28 PM

Bright Eyes is the stage name of Conor Oberst.
It is a single person, with a backing band.

He didn't have to strike gold.
It is his record company.

ACellistofCores 04-25-2006 10:19 PM

Good lord, mike mogis is genius too! he's in it as well. FULL-TIME refer to Bright eyes as "them".

Bleeding.Mascara 04-27-2006 10:58 AM

Love Bright Eyes.
first day of my life <3
and Lover I Don't Have To Love.
Check out Commander Venus, he was in that before Bright Eyes.

ACellistofCores 04-27-2006 12:41 PM

Yeah commander venus, polecat, lulaby for the working class. They were all really great. Theres a lot more with Tim Kasher and stuff.

venn diagrams 04-27-2006 04:28 PM

From what I've heard of Commander Venus, I think I like it more than Bright Eyes and definitely more than Cursive (I really don't like Cursive very much). CV reminds me Sunny Day Real Estate.

ACellistofCores 04-28-2006 05:08 PM

oh my good lord haha. commander venus sucked but it was just the community of it all that was really good. lulaby was good. Cursive is by far my favorite saddle creek band anyways so

venn diagrams 04-28-2006 09:19 PM

I don't understand all the love Cursive gets. They're so mediocre. Commander Venus was at least enjoyable (all my opinion, of course)

Oberst is a total d-bag. That guitar he was playing was probably worth somewhere around 2000-3500 bucks and he smashed it for absolutely no reason. It's not like that song was so powerful that it was in need of a guitar smashing at the end. I hate when people have no respect for instruments. Even the trumpet player felt the need to smash his trumpet.......

You really can't get much more badass. What a dipshit

kissedonfilm 06-04-2006 06:35 PM

yeah, so I basically LOVE Bright Eyes, but the songs are either one extreme or the other, i dont' think there's any "in-between" the songs are either AMAZING. or really sucky. (sounding at least). the lyrics are great always.

.angie. 06-06-2006 08:56 PM

Bright Eyes
is my favorite.

Their cds are really hard to find around here though.
I makes me sad.
But when I find one..
I FREAK out.

swim 06-06-2006 08:58 PM

I you'll find this to be a friend www.interpunk.com and just search bright eyes, even with shipping if you buy whatever you don't have it's cheaper than some big corporate record store.

.angie. 06-09-2006 08:30 PM

awh..
That's not nice.

Conor Oberst is a nice man.
Although drunk constantly..
still nice.
his lyrics
are happy.
=)

TheBig3 06-09-2006 09:24 PM

His voice is intentionally vunrable.

I'd call him a complete fucking asshole but I suppose it's all the same.

hookers with machineguns 06-10-2006 01:13 PM

Is it me or are Cursive and Bright Eyes the worst bands on Saddle Creek? Yes, agree with me.

tdoc210 07-26-2006 06:19 AM

Ok Gave them a listen. My opinion, Suck.
Yeah, nothing special, at all.
