I like Bright Eyes, but I'm not a big fan of Conor Oberst as a person. He seems like the type that would just mope around drunk and not do anything about stuff.

A good swift kick to the balls would help.

He does that all the time. Remember when he got drunk and started talking about how much he hated John Peel? Haha, that was hilarious.

sleepy jack 01-03-2006 03:52 PM

Jim Morrison did the same and everyone idolizes him...

PrettyDemented 01-03-2006 03:53 PM

I'd kick them both in the balls.

They are/were both great musicians but they definately need to stop drinking or getting high in the desert like Morrison

sleepy jack 01-03-2006 03:54 PM

Of course you can cure someone being an acoholic my kicking them in the crotch

PrettyDemented 01-03-2006 03:55 PM

Of course! It'd be like the rat cheese thing.

Whenever he drank...just kick him in the balls.

He'd get over it quickly.

blackhex 01-11-2006 05:21 PM

Expletive Deleted 01-11-2006 06:30 PM

I fucking despise Bright Eyes. Completely talentless, overrated hack.

I do. His songs are always stuck in my head...it's always there...i find him amazing especially when you read his lyrics so that you get what he's actually saying. Like Arc of Time...I love that song.

An artist who doesnt confine himself to one genre bothers you.
I dont understand. Is there something wrong with being able to write good music that is able to leap genres?

That makes no sense at all.
Oh Yeah, but I forgot. You are the one who claims all rap is shit because it is all about violence, bitches, and hoes.....right. How dare I expect you to post something that makes sense.

And on topic.
I love Bright Eyes.
His 2 new albums are not as great as some of his others, but they still beat a lot of other music.

Bright Eyes is a band?

mosesandtherubberducky 01-11-2006 07:01 PM

I like him. It sounds good, thank you Bungalow for getting me into Bright Eyes

Most people will tell you it's JUST Oberst, but that's because his band never gets credit. Mike Mogis, a producer/musician is the only other permanent member of the band, but Oberst uses members of other Saddle Creek bands to play his music, too.

Which is another thing that annoys me about Oberst, what a self-important prick. I don't think I've ever heard him give a shout out to any of the other bandmembers, EVER.

Sabgoat 01-11-2006 08:16 PM

well if i wanted to listen to different gernes i'd listen to different bands but when i'm listening to bright eyes i can't sit down to the whole album only listen to a few songs.. cause it can't stay around the same soundish.. i dunno its like listening to a mixed cd.. same voice didn't type of music..

blackhex 01-12-2006 06:38 AM

lol.. completely talentless? you get drunk and write better poetry than that.

MURDER JUNKIE 01-12-2006 07:37 AM

I would like Connor to die of a very painful gonnorhea/flesh-eating disease

blackhex 01-12-2006 07:39 AM

In my opinion, the lyrics are more deep than just... GAHHHH GHA GAHHHHH!@#EJIDW like most screamo stuff sounds like. true, there may be deeper meanings to all of the screaming, but can't they come up with anything better than just screaming all of the words at the top of their lungs? there's nothing beautiful about that to me.

Well that was on topic  screaming takes a buttload of practice and isn't easy and screamo lyrics are way better then connors.

Music for chicks

MrFloyd 01-12-2006 11:31 PM

I understand that many 'indie rock fans' put out major hate on bright eyes. And I can see why in a way, he is very self-involved and tends to lack direction in some of his writing. I am not one of the people that feels this holds him back from making really top drawer music.

I'm not sure how he is 'cliche' as was mentioned before, I mean sure he has very evident folk influences, but since when did that stop people from writting songs with just guitar in hand. Much 'indie rock' being made today often sounds like a combo of Neutral Milk hotel and the grateful dead, but com'on now, theres a point where he neeed to look at the real measure for how stuff is classified as cliche . . . the radio.

I think he is struggling to hit his stride and has started it with his new album "I'm wide awake its morning" (i realized i'm bias becase his lyrics appeal heavily to me) So he gets a big thumbs up to me, and if more people could ignore the fact that he really is a self involved bastard, they'd really dig his music.

Imonlydancing 01-13-2006 04:34 AM

I love bright eyes.
There was something on here about girls only liking bright eyes who were 15.
haha.
well. i fit into both of them.
but whatever.

blackhex 01-13-2006 01:26 PM

I'm not 15, or a girl, but I love it ;)

I disagree completely, Connor has some very nice music backing him up and considering you listen to hawthorne heights i wouldn't be talking about sucky music.

Sabgoat 01-13-2006 02:19 PM

i listen to many different types of music.. but bright eyes just doesn't do it for me.. but because i say that doesn't mean i have bad taste.. and hawthorne heights aren't that bad... i've heard alot worse!!

bungalow 01-13-2006 02:20 PM

I havent.
Hawthorne Heights completly suck.
I think that Conor writes much better music than that ****.
And you do have bad taste in music

sleepy jack 01-13-2006 02:23 PM

Let see.

I came upon a doctor who appeared in quite poor health.
I said "{I am terribly sorry but} there is nothing I can do for you
{that} you can't do for yourself."
He said "Oh yes you can. Just hold my hand. I think that would help."
So I sat with him a while and then I asked him how he felt.
He said, "I think I'm cured. No, in fact, I'm sure.
Thank you Stranger, for your therapeutic smile."

or

And I can't make it on my own.
(And I can't make it on my own.)
Because my heart is in Ohio.
So cut my wrists and black my eyes.
(Cut my wrists and black my eyes)
So I can fall asleep tonight, or die.
Because you kill me.
You know you do, you kill me well.
You like it too, and I can tell.
You never stop until my final breath is gone.

HOMG HAWHTONRNNEHIEHGFTIS IS SO BEttER!11
and any band that has 3 guitarists, and it still sounds like they have 1 and doesn't do anything special and as far as i know the lead singer just holds his guitar and randomally strums is lame and don't get me started on the screaming.

To get back on topic i <3 bright eyes.

blackhex 01-14-2006 08:04 AM

Hawthorne heights is really... repetitive, like a lot of other music. Most bright eyes songs you won't hear the same line twice, ever.

selluette 01-15-2006 06:49 AM

Never mind, lovers are not to share

either/or 01-15-2006 07:29 AM

hawthorne heights are no comparison to bright eyes. oberst's lyrics are amazing, favourite song- first day of my life. his misery reminds me alot of elliott :(

blackhex 01-16-2006 04:49 PM

His lyrics are amazing, to say the least.. he's been dubbed (start flame war here :P) the new generation's bob dylan. amazing.

Sabgoat 01-16-2006 04:50 PM

i find it so funny that you would go as far to compare the both.. HAHAHHAHAHHAHHHAHA!

blackhex 01-16-2006 04:52 PM

not me. others have said that.

Hellhound-138 01-16-2006 05:06 PM

I loved bright eyes when I heard Letting Off the Happiness. His music since then has been a lot different but its still good.

FfEeeEeeKk 01-19-2006 07:04 AM

They are okay. I am not really into that emo stuff...but their song Something Vauge is alright.
