The best thing about Conor is that I guarantee he doesn't care what anybody thinks about him. He references "hooded-swaetshirt walks" on "Gold Mine Gutted". He knows who he's making music for, besides himself. He's been making the music he wants since he was 14, and he CREATED Saddle Creek. Being in control of ALL of your musical output is a pretty amazing feat. Plus, "When The President Talks To God" is a way better protest than the line "I've got soul, but I'm not a solider." Call me if the Killers ever yell "I guess that God just calls a spade a spade" on Jay Leno.
Ok, it's time... the inevitable Dylan comparison. Bob did whatever he felt like, and that's where it should end. Yeah, they both have the acoustifolk vibe at times, but when he was expectd to make Highway 61 Revisited again, he made Bringing It All Back Home. Conor was expected to make another Lifted... after that album had mild success (it got him in Newsweak... as a protest singer, of course), but instead he released Digital Ash and I'm Wide Awake. Of course, I'm he might not be the "voice of a generation," but I can't think of anyone better. Plus, he's cuuuuuute. Like, OMG! I totally relate to his heartbreak even though I'm fourteen and my extent of a relationship was holding hands with a boy at lunch. Oh man, I'm gonna' be crucified for using the D-word here... |
When THe President Talks To God has to be the single finest protest song ever created. Not only are the lyrics clever, its by far the most passionate he sings on anywhere in "Digital Ash", "Im Wide Awake" or anything prior. It deserves so much more than a B-Side release.
He is the most fantastic lyricist I have ever come across, and is truly inspiring BUT his-music-is-allmighty-shite. Almost all his tunes are boring and monotonous, bar a couple from Digital Ash, and Road to Joy, which of course isnt actually his. If he could couple his writings with some good tunes, he would be far and away the greatest artist of our generation. Alas (Yay i finally got to use that word) he is another star set on self-destruction, as Glasto showed. A lot of his music tell of addiction, and I can just imagine a headline someday soon of him having topped himself...But lets live in hope eh? |

Thats a sarcastic laugh, right?

Sarcasm?

You can't kill an emo boy! That's like killing a pope to forlorn 15-year-olds. And they hunt in packs. |
The pope? The pope is dead actually...
Yes but everytime one goes another on grows back in his place with his power twofold! Hes the unbeatable foe!

i like bright eyes. yes some of the stuff is conceited, over-indulgent tripe but oberst in my opinion has the ability to write amazing lyrics and evoke a mood like no other. i concur with sweet jane- one day he'll produce something special despite the fact i think first day of my life and Haligh, Haligh, A Lie, Haligh are up there anyway.

^ They just replace them real quick. If you weren't being sarcastic, cos y'know, i can't tell...its the internet. Yeah LedZepStu, Haligh, haligh, a lie, haligh is one of his best songs.
"Haligh, haligh, a lie, haligh" and "The Calender Hung Itself" show why Bright Eyes and Coner Oberst are as succesful as they are.
Bright eyes are fantastic and good for almost all moods . . . . |
I liked 'Digital Ash' much more than 'I'm Wide Awake..' which I think is against the trend... Missed him at Glastonbury but glad I did give the crap he pulled...
Yeah, I like both those albums, were they released at the same time?
aye - in fact he also had #1 and #2 singles in the US at same time with them (which is quite rare)
ah, i seeee, i thought they were, but wasnt too sure.
I dig their album "Letting Off The Happiness" . . . I think it's their best effort to date. . . . I wasn't very impressed with "I'm wide awake, it's morning", but . . . heh.
All I know is that I love "Lua", it's my most favourite Bright Eyes song.

Oh yeah, sorry... I always forget something...
bright eyes are awesome i agree with u
I just recently started to get into bright eyes. I have had a couple odd songs by bright eyes for some time, but when I used to dl his stuff, I couldn't take his voice for long.
I dunno what happened...I was a passenger in someones car, they had bright eyes on....I fell in love. I really like "I'm wide awake, its morning" and "Lifted or the story is in the soil, keep your ear to the ground" |
Bright Eyes is good, but a little too overrated in my opinion. At least by some people.
I do really like "At the Bottom of Everything" and "Lover I Don't Have to Love". |
I like him.
Sorry. I do. |
I really enjoy "Another travelin' song"
meh, they're not bad, the only song i really love by them is "lover i dont have to love". great song, and i just love the music. plus its an awesome song for powder skiing so major points there.
okay, Cant remember if i've posted in here, but I love bright eyes. Lots.
i love him alright., heh. he's done alot considering his age.
For those of us that heard of Glastonbery in this thread, can we get a refresher on what exactly he said?
