Best show you've seenthis year...

It's nearly the end of the year, and i'm curious to see what peoples favorite shows of the year will be.

My personal favorite show i attended this year was seeing the Hold Steady at the west end cultural center in winnipeg. 10 dollars, dollar for dollar the best time i've ever had!!!

System of a Down, with Mars Volta. System ruled, but Mars Volta sounded like one big BLAHRHA. So bad it hurt, the mixing was really bad. System was wicked though and free. (I love friend's birthday partys)

Haven't gone yet, but if what people say is true it'll be Explosions In the Sky.

For anyone in the SF Bay area, I've seen the Phenomenauts twice this year, and both times they totally rocked. Great live show.

I would have explosions in my pants if I were to see Explosions in the Sky.

Best indie show this year was Xiu Xiu for me. I also had a lot of fun at Tilly and the Wall.

I was there... and that's my number 2. Was close I assure you but Arcade Fire are in their prime (rather than past it) and s-h-i-t-hot. Soulwax at Reading Fez club round up my top 3.

Yeah, the Arcade Fire were good, but the Pixies were pretty much the only band on the main stage who managed to make their set not sound like shít. After watching the Queens of the Stone Age mumble for the best part of an hour I didn't have high hopes for Frank and the rest, but bloody hell, the first guitar wail alone was the best sounding thing of the weekend.

ahh yes... I only went to Reading one day (as normal) so didn't see AF there... You are not only person that has said AF were not THAT great at Reading...

franscar 12-06-2005 04:50 AM

Well I missed the first ten minutes of the AF. And I was incredibly drunk. So it would have had to have been the greatest show in the history of all things for me to have clearly remembered it.

IndiElectronica 12-06-2005 07:00 AM

drunk... at a festi?! shame on you! (sarcasm)

with Propaghandi on the 10th, Contravene on the 17th, and the Adolescents on the 28th, I dont think I can say what the best show of the year was yet..

Well if you add up being taught at a school of music by Deathcab for Cutie's Jason McGerr, touring with Jimmy Eat World and playing with Rilo Kiley, Pearl Jam, Death Cab, Sleater-Kinney and Cat Power, that's some amazing achievements. Go on, believe it, leave the skepticism at home. :)

let me start out by saying that this is my first year really getting into music and going to shows frequently.

lets see...Nine Inch Nails was way up there. It was so intense and i was up against the railing and shouting at the top of my lungs. While Queens of the Stone Age wasnt the best opening act (spare this one bit when the lead singer told a guy in the audience to suck his ****.), Autolux was really intense and an amazing show all on its own.

I did see The Pixies, but they werent nearly as good as I thought they would be. I would have been better with more audience reaction and interaction. Plus Frank Black and Kim Deal looked like they werent into it at all.

I have to give an honorable mention here to the secret machines as well, mainly because of the drummer. Having listened to Now Here Is Nowhere and really liking the drums on the first two tracks, and hearing so much about them live, i was really excited for the show. They lived up to all my expectations and that drummer is FULL of energy.
