This band is awesome. Loveless is my favorite album.
|
Loveless is a contender for most overrated album ever.
|
hiu, if you don't mind me asking. Are you from Norway?
|
No.
|
Ok. For some reason, I had a feeling.
|
Loveless definetely grew on me. I'd say it's in my Top 10.

Loveless is an absolute masterpiece - boo boo's description of how the guitar acts as musical canvas is pretty spot on. It's a wonderful album to listen to.
|
What makes "My Bloody Valentine" better than the usual slasher of the era are good production values (looks more expensive than the usual slasher), some nice location work (especially the mine), and it does have some gritty atmosphere. Unfortunately, the movie is still weak in the acting, writing etc. departments, and even slasher fans will occasionally wince at some dumbness.

Have you actually read any of the thread? |
Loveless and Isn't Anything are both great albums. They both have their weak and strong songs but you can't argue with material like Come in Alone, When You Sleep and (When You Wake) You're Still in a Dream!
Loveless might be a bit overrated, it is not a flat out masterpiece, but it certainly deserves a lot of credit. |
Loveless is one of those albums where if you listen to it at the perfect moment you can completely lose yourself in it, completely overwhelmed by its beauty and lost in a sea of sound. In my opinion, it truly is a masterpiece.
|
I like the mixing on Loveless. Its completely upside down, the bass is practically nonexistent and the drums, the thing that would traditionally be driving the songs, is pushed right to the back. The guitar is much louder than everything else and you cn hardly hear the words. Funny way of mixing an album but thats what gives it its hazy, blurry character.
This is why I don't think of My Bloody Valentine in relation to the so-called "shoegazing" scene. Ride, great as they were, never sounded remotely like them. |

I thought everyone loved MVB.

There's not much i can say about Loveless that hasn't already been said. Wether you're daydreaming to it or concentrating on the music, its brilliant.
Listening to it too loud gives me a headache though :s |
I still like their EPs more than their albums

I rate ISN'T ANYTHING far more than LOVELESS.
|
Anyone got any uploads..?
|
The magnificent ISN'T ANYTHING:
hxxp://rapidshare.com/files/34198962/Bloody-1st.rar Be prepared for the (intentional) lo-fi production. This came out in 1988 and is in my top ten of all time. |

QFT Loveless really is a beautiful album, its just so dreamy! |
I love Kevin Shields' approach to guitar.
A major element of his technique is his use of extended tremalo arms (which he made by breaking them in half, putting an extra piece between the two broken pieces and then taping them together) which he uses almost constantly as he strums, creating an ethereal vibrato effect, which combined with a lot of reverb and sustain creates that trademark "dreamy" sound, and one of the coolest guitar sounds ever. They need to make guitars specifically for that method of playing, with longer wammy bars so you can use them simultaneously while strumming. It can be called "The Glider". Surprised no one ever thought of that before. |
ok, im listening to the ones i d/l from your upload and feeling a little bland. perhaps it just needs another listen through... often albums that take a couple of listens to like are the ones that you enjoy for longer.

This is Your Bloody Valentine kind of sounds like a cheap Bauhaus/goth-era-Damned/Birthday Party rip-off.
Ecstasy & Wine is amazing though. |
mbv gets plenty of credit
|
loveless is one of the best albums evarrrrrr
|
I think Loveless is their best album. Aren't I original.
I have 11 folders of music by MBV, 3 albums, and the rest EPs and whatnot. Out of those, "You Made Me Realise" is my most played at the moment. |
I thought MBV was on to an interesting idea, fusing Jesus and Mary Chain noise pop with the ethereal rhythms of Cocteau Twins, but lacked the song-writing prowess to turn this into a classic. The good songs tend to sound similar and the boring ones stagnant and would benefit if they'd been shortened (filler perhaps?). The publicity it received in the early 90's was very good, making many top 10 lists, but has waned recently, because it’s one of those albums that’s decent, but derivative.
|
my bloody period would be a better name for them.
|
if mbv are derivative there is no original music
|
i said "who?"
