Interesting debate going on here...

if you go to http://www.garageband.com which is a site dedicated to "indie" bands, the variety of music styles is endless... so i think they are going with the "Independant" or unsigned theory... not the indie sound theory.

thanks for the link. I'v said before, "indie" music has never been a favorite, but it's growing. I'll definitly check out some artist, even though it seems like half are aspiring "rappers"

no problem... there is some really good bands/ artists on Garage Band.

my personal fave as i'm sure you can tell is Cold Driven. if your into hard rock, give them a listen.

now they are indie, they are totally unsigned and did their cd in the studio themselves and it's incredible... they are starting to get some attention now, and there have been some offers, some they scoffed at, and a few that have their attention, and i'm sure when they do get signed, they will be happy to leave the "indie" title behind.

It's not really an interesting debate when there's nothing to debate. It's not a "theory," any band that's unsigned or signed to an independent label is an indie band. There is no other definition.

I agree with Expletive.
Indie isnt a genre of music.
You can be a Rock band.......but also be signed to an Indie label. Or, be unsigned
You can be a Pop band.......but also be signed to an Indie label.Or be unsigned
Once you are signed to a major label.....you can no longer be considered an Indie band.
It makes no sense to call a band on a major label "indie"
Once the Indie Pop band is signed to a major label, they are simply "Pop"....not Indie.
That is something that gets on my nerves.
An "indie" band, on a major label....is nonexistent
