Converge:Skramz or Metalcore?

Oh, Converge:Sheer ****ing satanic. But damn do I really enjoy their music; even if it is a whole bunch of loud disturbing noise.

But anyways, people say these guys are Metalcore/Mathcore..? I don't hear that at all. I'm pretty sure these guys are ****ing skramz or emoviolence right?

For anyone who's familiar with them, what do you think?

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 08-11-2016 07:32 PM

I think, and you can quote me on this one, it doesn't matter because they're ****ing awesome.

The Batlord 08-11-2016 07:42 PM

What makes you call them skramz? Do you not listen to metalcore in general? Cause there are plenty of bands they sound more like than Pg.99.

Tristan_Geoff 08-11-2016 11:30 PM

I'd say like, Petitioning the Empty Sky, maybe. But otherwise no. Fullblown metallic hardcore all the way.

The Batlord 08-11-2016 11:38 PM

Dude. You know you can find some bros with fitted caps at this band's show.

SuperCoolGuy 08-14-2016 02:57 PM

Only ever heard of their first album, and if that's anything to go by then I'd say Converge is Metalcore
They just don't have that intentional overt emotional twinge that bands like pg.99 have
Like, listen to Document 7 and then Halo In The Haystack back to back and you'd hear a difference
But, like I said, that's the only album of theirs that I'm familiar with, so I could be dead wrong

Go listen to Petitioning the Empty Sky and Jane Doe, their second and third albums, to listen to Converge in the form that metalcore fans know them. Both also far superior albums.

Petitioning the Empty Sky

Jane Doe

Defenitely metalcore. Though, aimless arrow sounds like a post-hardcore song, I wouldn't be surprised if they were influenced by some screamo.

I'd say quite a few of their songs are very post-hardcore. Surprised it doesn't get more secondary ratings of that on RYM.

The Batlord 08-16-2016 05:35 PM

Well metalcore started as a genre of hardcore, so it shouldn't be surprising if some of the more experimental bands are heavily influenced by post-hardcore.

Especially on their last record, which is why I love it so much. Probably my second favourite of theirs.

Meh. Converge started becoming less cool after Jane Doe, just like how Poison the Well got boring when they went post-hardcore after their first album. I'm returning to Petitioning the Empty Sky more and more.

I feel like the gap of albums between Jane Doe and EWLWLB were just Converge as usual but their latest is definitely a return to experimentation that I enjoy. Lot's of sludge metal undertones too which I like.

What in the hell is "skramz"?

I've never heard this term in my life, just "screamo"

The Batlord 06-19-2020 12:57 PM

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=skramz

MidnightRambler 06-20-2020 07:02 AM

Yeah, that sounds pretty legit.

People have to come up with stupid new terms for things that were already defined.
