Some person on another forum defined emo pretty well. Its on the ezboards

Emo:
Divide it into waves.
First wave: Indian Summer, Moss Icon, Hoover, Still Life, Navio Forge, etc.

Second Wave: Cap'n Jazz, Sunny Day Real Estate, Mineral, etc.

Third Wave: Thursday, Senses Fail, etc.
