I'd say I like screamo, but I'm sure I don't like "real screamo". Because apparently, nothing is "real screamo."

I find a good rule of thumb is if you've heard of them, they're not screamo

As soon as they release an LP they're no longer real screamo. A real screamo band's career typically spans a couple of demos and a split here or there, before everything's compiled into a 'discography' release (if the band is popular/mainstream real screamo). This release has a running time of no more than 32 minutes. Any longer then said band is not real screamo.

That pretty much sums up my experience with the genre.

It is a little pretentious, but if you can get past that, there is some incredible stuff.

On a side note, do you think most screamo bands lasted as short a duration as they did because of the raw emotions and assumed subsequent mood swings of the members?

You know what the fucked up thing is. Screamo bands that make non-screamo songs. That shit. Will. Fuck with you.

I know you're being sarcastic, but...ugh.

Are The Saddest Landscape considered screamo? Feel free to crucify me if they're not. I can handle it. This was the first song I heard from them, and I was hooked immediately.

Afterwards I got You Will Not Survive, and ever since then they've been one of my favorite bands. From that album, I think this is probably my favorite track:

And my overall favorite (you could say tied with The Sixth Golden Ticket):
