Default Is older Modest Mouse Indie-Emo?

Hey folks, this is my first post! I'm not big on introductions, but I really like the look of this place, and I look forward to contributing some intelligent, nourishing conversation.

Anyways, was listening to the 1997 song "Polar Opposites" by Modest Mouse (check it out on Youtube, I can't post links just yet) and I wondered what you guys might think of it in respect to Indie-emo. It's not that moody or anything (it would definitely have an emphasis on the 'Indie' part of the word), but it does seem kind of similar to other indiemo stuff that's a little more on the happy side.

What do you guys think?

I could totally agree on this. Actually i started first listening to older Modest Mouse and someone told me that I would probably enjoy Cap'n Jazz. Thats pretty much how I first started listening to emo.

No I would stop listening. I love Modest Mouse but I WILL NOT be caught listening to Indie-Emo...no way! Maybe we can compromise and say there just indie-alternative and I will start listening again. Its not about what sounds good, only genre labels.

Not really. I mean, maybe a bit, but I already really like the song.

Teeth like gods shoe shine has hardcore/post-hardcore elements for sure. Some songs on the lonesome crowded wet and this is long drive have screamed vocal tracks layered in the songs that give the call and response type sound like circle takes the square. Their early stuff has unusual song structures and the riffs at times have an emo vibe or even screamo vibe. Modest mouse incorperates numerious genres in their music and emo is one of them.

90's indie rock from the Pacific Northwest sounding kind of like other 90's indie rock from the Midwest? I don't believe it.
