I was about 99% sure we had a thread on this band already. I cannot seem to find it after much searching. I've been hitting [A->B] life so hard lately.
Mods please move if you have a greater searching talent, as I gave up fairly easily. |
I'm also surprised there wasn't already a thread.
I really like these guys, been with them from the beginning with [A->B] Life and I Never Said That I Was Brave, but I was really disappointed in the last album. There are some good songs but overall what I liked about them from the beginning has been stripped out. Over time I may grow to like it more, been meaning to give it another spin one of these days. |
My fave from them is Gentlemen from AB life.
Followed by My Exit, Unfair from Catch for us the foxes. I only have AB life, Brother Sister, and Catch though... I need to get the latest. |

:yeah: |
Seriously the lyrics in the debut album are amazing, I love just about every song. So raw and emotional. One of my favorites from Catch Us for the Foxes is "Paper Hangers".
I didn't know that about Aaron Weiss getting more 'in touch' with religion. I knew they were Christian from the beginning (I think) but one of the things that appealed to me is that they weren't preachy and I was able to enjoy them purely based on the sound of their music. And you could interpret the lyrics any way you want, really, even if he was talking about his relationship with god half the time. Now, it's too obvious and I don't want to hear that. Pretty sad to hear they hardly play older stuff and even worse, change the lyrics. *shudder* Wish I'd gone to see them before it was too late. http://zxzw.files.wordpress.com/2009...ithoutyou2.jpg |

Its still above the level of bad ass in my eyes. |
I saw them like 2 years ago with Maps & Atlases and I really like Brother, Sister.

Yeah Brother, Sister has grown on me. I didn't like it much at first because it was yet another step away from the aggression of their beginnings, but I like it quite a bit now. That's why I'm thinking the last one might grow on me over time, if I just ignore some of the lyrics and campfire-sounding songs.

So I played the latest album again yesterday. It was sunny and I was at a park by the water, drinking wine. It's a pleasant enough album under such circumstances, and more appropriate for the conditions than their debut album would have been. The lyrics really aren't too in your face with your religion (however the album closer "Allah, Allah, Allah" is really annoying). One thing I noticed that I may not have noticed before is that the drums are really low in the mix. I think this is partly what gives the album a "church campfire" sound. You notice them on a few tracks, giving the song a bit of a heavier feel, but the rest feels sort of acoustic due to them being so low in the mix. The songs are very low-impact.
