lyrics.....help!

ok this might be a dumb post. i am constantly having trouble writing lyrics for my band. i need help. sometimes when im sitting around, i think of random lines that i could add to but i always get stuck. does anyone else have any lines or verses that i might be able to add to a song for my band?

Just mumble incoherently.

It`s worked for loads of bands.

yeah, that or just think that maybe writing lyrics is not your thing and if people write for you you're gonna end up like britney...just ask someone in your band to work with you. it's always better when it's your own creation

The best way to write lyrics is to just write and not be trying to write lyrics. When youve got enough written down, just try and fit it all into lyrics. Well, works for us anyways.

write when your feeling mad, sad, happy, pissed, angry, jealous, bitter. emotion drives words. don't write when you're feeling indifferent cause it will suck. you can always play with the words later but get your feelings on paper.

exactly, write when you're feeling some sort of emotion that way you can at least in some way express it. Later, when you're more clear headed you can go back and kinda clean it up because when people are pissed off, depressed, etc they're not thinking very clearly...

This exactly how I write, and it helps me alot. Usually a poem-ish type thing or something. Don't worry about structure, or having things rhyme or anything like that. Just let it flow. Whatever comes out comes out. Keep writing! The more you write the more awesome stuff that comes out.
I don't know about anyone else, but listening to music before or during writing is very destracting, and things end up sounding like the songs your listening to. Or like blackTshirt says, work with your band. It helps. If you have an idea on what you want the song to be about, or have part of a song written, maybe they can help with the rest. Both of the guitarists in my band write too, and it works out well, we work on each others stuff. If your forced, the best stuff won't come out. Hope this helps a little.

Just scream words until you throat gets sore like ALEXISONFIRE

ArtistInTheAmbulance 02-10-2005 09:43 AM

^I dont understand how they can scream through every song.. Its so easy to pass out screaming, they cant be putting much into each scream. Kinda loses its effect then really.. Works better when its less often, and you can put everything into it :)
