i dissagree completely.

there are more emo records(that are good) being made now than ever. there are amazing emo bands touring and playing out all the time with new releases constantly. the scene is still thriving, its just not as strong as it used to be. when this fad dies down, youll see these bands falling into the limelight.

I don`t dispute that. What i`m saying is the public perception of emo is those bands who you say are not emo. I don`t think those bands you mention will have their turn in the limelight for the simple reason that when the emo thing does die people will want to move on from it.If anything those bands are destined to play to a small loyal following & little else.

I have an open minded view of music. I can guarentee at least 75% of people on here have aqcuired a dislike for music based on someone elses opinions. I used to thrive on individuality and genre specified music, but now I listen to what I like. It may be, TBS, Circle takes the square, pretty girls make graves, or even new found glory. I get joy out of hearing old pop songs that no one likes because its "mainstream". People's music choice is too much based on what others think.

Also...you all need to get the fugg over 'what emo is' just listen to the freaking music you like. Im with riseagainstrocks when saying I used to come here to discuss bands I liked, but the few times I do visit a week, it is some kid thats bitching about what 'real emo' is. Aside form the poor moderation part im beginning to agree with riseagainstrocks when saying this place is sinking fast. I guess you'll just see me around alot less, because everyday my homepage, MusicBanter pops up, and I dont sign in, because I know it will all be the same thing, some ****head spamming, some 14 year old girl posting about how much they love/hate GC, some kid who thinks hes the first to discover 'real emo'. Its ridiculous. :finger:

Cause of **** like this my stance on music classification its someones opinion i gettin sick of people wining thier are few people who have opinions on emo that arent a idiot about it i eman riseagainstrocks isnt bitchin about real emo neithers thrice heres why thier not idiots who are arrogant so frankly this is why the emo forum pisses me off

Wow. Being new to these forums I've been wary to call attention to this. Didn't want to look like some idiot who doesn't know forums for **** coming in and bad mouthing the place. Since it's brought up I can't say how much I agree Thrice and how bothered I've been by it. This is the one place I've found that I can discuss the one and only style of music I enjoy. In the short time I've been here, I've seen most of what these forums have to offer and it's arguing (although some hide it in the guise of debating). Add on top of that the "what is emo" discussions over and over and over. Get's old fast. Hell, look at this topic as a good indicator of when topics are bad and get even worse. It's not all doom and gloom. I've seen some discussions that were heading in the right direction. I've found at least 10 good bands I've never heard of because of this place.

Can't topics be locked, people warned, and other people banned? How about a sticky warning new comers the right way to act when coming here and if you don't listen your topic could be locked/deleted and you could get banned?

Just suggestions. I wouldn't like to see this place get even worse and then again it would be ****ing great if we could have some real music discussions.

:finger: How that for getting serious? :p:

I'm tired of threads about this...

Greg 01-14-2005 11:16 AM

If you don't like the thread don't read or contribute to it. It does get boring going over the same crap, but to some people it isn't. They may not have been listening to the genre and might find it useful finding out about bands they've never heard of. Everybodys got to start somewhere.

Thrice 01-14-2005 11:51 AM

I havent been on much due to overwhelming school activities and personal stuff, but thats over now, and I plan on being on more often. Also, I will be taking matter into my own hands a bit more and deleting things I dont like...such as the countless repetitive posts and the negative users.

I think frost has done a fairly good job moderating the forums without you, but it wouldn't hurt to have another mod.

oh yeah
If you ever ban people you should ban that urban whatever his name is. He basically says nothing of real value, and I've been able to ignore almost every single comment he's made because he's never said anything that had to do with any topic.

Watch as he gonna start posting about this and I'm simply gonna ignore him

Still , for all my faults at least I don`t start witch hunts on other posters.

sounds like a great plan, I remember one day I counted all the threads on the first page of the emo forum that didn't contain an argument about what emo is, or someone bi*ching about how a band mentioned wasn't "real emo". I found 4. That just about made me want to never look in this damn forum again.

Is that why I got banned? Jeez, wasnt meant to be taken seriously. Sorry for whatever it was I did, I do actually like it here, alot better kept than any of the other forums. Not saying much, theyre just huge arguments more than discussions.. *Sigh* Whatever, I guess Im about to be kicked off again. Twas fun while it lasted.

If it is , it is a rather harsh ban. Even more harsh considering the worst person i`ve seen for knocking peoples tastes about what is & isn`t emo is actually a moderator here.

Thrice 01-17-2005 04:12 PM

Yeah, well when it comes to opinions and they way they are expressed about music, thats one thing, but personal opinions are another.

What's the point of banning people if they are gonna come back with a different name anyway?

I don't agree. He's quite on topic, and I have learned a lot of band info from his posts. Just because you do not agree with him on certain things does not mean he says "nothing of real value."
