Hightide Hotel

Thought they might as well have a thread.
I know the drummer played in street smart cyclist but I have no idea who the other two dudes are.
They're releasing a split 7" with By Surprise in the spring.

they're pretty sweetness, they have that whole philly cheery emo thing going on

swim 02-17-2009 06:05 PM

Everyone should grab the Porch Luck EP they posted, Send big files the easy way. Files too large for email attachments? No problem! , It's really good. They do have that Algernon/Street Smart/Boy Problems sound about them which is really nice.

alliteration 02-17-2009 06:13 PM

Yeah, this band sounds like every other Philly band out there.

hope this means i'm not the only one bored with this whole cheery emo thing. i don't listen to lots of emo/screamo any more - most the stuff i do listen to now isn't american, or is not as recent american stuff - but it seems like everyone and their grandma is starting a two piece band with a name with an exclaimation mark at the end, some math rock influence alongside heavy kinsella/make me worship... and its kinda lame

pretty much, noone has any originality, they just imitate braid and capn' jazz. Its ok but I would love to see a band that doesnt try to just be like cheap rip-offs of bands of the past.

Louise Csyphre is and always will be my favorite european screamo band though. They have a really unique brand of chaos.

anyone into Adorno? my friend bills record label just put out their cd. Its pretty decent, they're from portugal.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 02-17-2009 11:49 PM

edited my post.. cuz i still do listen to american stuff, just not as recent. gotta give props to the azns too

Totally. To be honest, I think Cap'n Jazz is really boring and way overrrated, but too many kids in emo think you HAVE to like them. Apparently thats a prerequisite for every band in Philly, too, since they all rip off them and American Football like its going out of style. I'm sick of hearing the high pitched grating singing/screamy vocals . Jesus Christ, cut it out.

agreed, they only had one good song.

@ brandon, dude louise cyphre bring the ruckus dude, i love those guys.

but anyway, on the northeast scene there's at least a few bands (monument, storm the bastille, death to tyrants, jacob and i) that are trying to something really genuine. i do remember the days when i thought that make me was kind of overrated, and i was really into the skramz scene with cap'n caveman, but these days i'm more into that melodic shit and now even more hardcore stuff. so i'm glad i've progressed beyond "omg braid is the end all be all! kinsella iz hero!".

JUST WAIT TILL OUR NEW SPLIT EP ROLLS IN!

sugarandspite 02-20-2009 12:03 AM

I'm kind of loving the whole Twinkly Emo thing that going around recently. So energetic.

Hightidehotel 05-11-2009 01:01 PM

Thanks to anyone with kind words. If you are tired of the twinkly emo sound, don't listen to us. Or check out our new tape when it comes out, it's all acoustic and lo-fi. Lo-fi is hip now, right? The new version of the song Porch Luck is up on our myspace right now. myspace.com/hightidehotel. We may come to your city this summer, if you are into that shoot us a message.

3 bands you should be listening to:
Iron Age
Harvey Milk
Algernon Cadwallader (You know they are awesome)

Rubber 05-11-2009 08:04 PM

the acoustic version of porch luck kicks ass, good to see you here.

swim 05-11-2009 08:57 PM

I think after having time to digest them a bit they still stick. The ep is amazing. I must've listened to it 50+ times and it still has those holy shit moments. No one out right now is as good as them.

skillswithaz 05-14-2009 08:03 PM

These guys rock. I happen to love the philly emo thing. I think all the bands really aren't all that like each other. The only two that are really that close are By Surprise and Hightide Hotel...but they're releasing that split pretty soon that I'm excited for that.

alliteration 05-15-2009 03:09 PM

well you're wrong. they all sound exactly the same.

atrenchantcritique86 05-19-2009 04:52 PM
