ok i agree with the fact that kids try to fit in and such, but why are you getting so annoyed???its not like theyr gonna matter in 10 or 20 years time.if theyr fake then just let them be fake.theyll end up worse off because theyr losers.i have people at school who rip me coz i listen to punk etc and iv listened to it 4 years.it p***es me off but hey iv become immune to being called a "dirty greebo" (to u yanks out there it means "dirty punk") and i dont care anymore.better than being a chav i say!

yeah, i totally agree that people just automatically categorize people by how they dress. but in my area if people dont dress or act like them they dont talk to them. thats what im talking about, like all the preps hang out with other preps and they are the only ones they will associate with.

i dont really care how people dress, as long has they are fun to be around. i have quite a variation of friends. i have hick friends, punk friends, skater people friends, etc. i dont like to only talk to people like me, i like variety.

^^That sucks. I have friends that are 'preps', I have friends that are 'goths', I have friends that are 'skaters' and... Ok, Im tired of this now. But you get the idea... There's nothing like that where I live.. Its not like we have gangs of preps, and gangs of punks.. We just mingle with everyone. Its not like we all live happily or anything like that, there's still the normal amount of abuse between everyone, but its not because of how we dress..

we have a really small school, so there are random gangs of people, and most of it is preps.

the people in each social group critisise the other's for their taste in music/dress sense/way of thinking and then go on to dress/listen/think in their own certain way which is anti-confirmist! but they are actually conforming to anti-conformity.

emo is the perfect example. recently loads of people i know are so quick to say "I'm emo", "i listen to emo music", "i'm an emo-kid" what the &*^%?

They dont like other social trends yet they follow their own? They try to be different, yet everyone in that group is similar... if a band is not emo enough (even if they might like it) they cant say so in their social group because it's not emo enough (or whatever the genre is).

Point is, young people are always trying to be part of something for acceptance and trying to classify themselves as something rather than just being an individual! Who cares if you like something you shouldn't?

I have one of the most diverse taste's in music, clothing and pastimes of anyone i know, simply because i really dont care if i fit into someone else's idea of what is "emo" or "indie" or "gothic" or "pop" or whatever the hell else?

Question is, why cant other's be like this?

(i put this in the emo forum because emo is the current trendy thing to be apparently and i'm expecting more flames that way )
I totally agree. I did post this ages ago, but you seem to have made a better point than me and you got the message across.

Yeah, they act different towards different styles, but they also act different to their own styles... I know exactly what Im trying to say, but its not working.

People dont use dress sense and taste of music as a reason to insult people, because they insult people that dress exactly the same as them. When they insult people for being an "effing goth", its not because they wear black and listen to metal, they'd insult them anyway, no matter what the look like. They just call them a goth because they just look like it...

Awrg I cant write it properly, but I know exactly what I mean.
