Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come
I'm thinking of purchasing this on CD or on LP but I just don't know.
I used to love "New Noise" which is on the album, and apparently it is an essential, but I don't know how I feel about hardcore/punk just yet. So, I'm leaving it to the wonderful, knowledgeable individuals in MusicBanter to educate me. Is it worth purchasing? Is there a better Refused album? Is there anything I should know before buying it? Do share. |
Get it........................NOW!!!
The Refused would be ashamed to know what the shape of punk to come really was |
I ain't going to lie to you man, you need that album.
|
But, what is it about it that makes it a classic? An essential?
|
For me it never gets boring really. It's never constant noise, there's electro fills and the whole quiet loud quiet ethic going on, so when the distortion is there it really hits home. Awesome lyrics as well.
I'm not massive on hardcore either but i'd happily put is as one of the best albums i've heard. |
Yeah, that's actually a big deal for me. I get bored of hardcore and goth metal albums because they don't often offer variety between tracks, but that elector fill sounds interesting. Also, I heard there are little jazzy moments too.

This album has it all, it moves from beautiful at times to bombastic fury. I think what may make it a classic is the use of technology which up until that point was taboo in punk rock. It stands high in the top five as one of the most innovative punk rock albums ever and certainly the only one of the modern era. It takes a lot of balls to introduce an album like this
|
Put simply it's an album not everyone might fancy but everyone really should hear.

That's what is strange, it was acclaimed by punks everywhere as soon as it came out. There is really something for everyone here
