I dont think it totally died either, hardcore can mean so many different things. I only know of one hardcore punk band that is still together and that is Dropdead lol. I know punks that listened to hardcore punk in the 80's called their music hardcore as well. Hardcore music as we know it today will be looked back on as being "Breakdown Hardcore."
