Please tell me sum old emo bands

Im pretty sick of all this "stuff" on emo now. It has chnaged so much, it cam from hardcore and it first of all kept its hardcore touch, but now it has changed in 2 pop punk like rufio, something corporate.

We need 2 get the real emo bck which evolved from hardcore, and has long guitar melodys and makes u shut ur eyes and feel where they r, not fookin wanna floor punch.

So tell me wot r sum of the bands which made this music?

peace

Rites of Spring, creators of the genre.
Indian Summer
Antioch Arrow
Frail
Saetia
Kite Flying Society (newish, but hardcore)
Moss Icon

Those are some to start with :)

communication_drive 01-15-2004 04:22 AM

Yeah good lad, u hav sum good taste.

I was just trying 2 c if any1 had taste on here and wasn't stuck in the new way of the crappy like something corporate, and thrice.

These r all bands which dont mean as much as the old emo does, ir has had a dramatic change.

FREEDOM OF CHOICE

abakubub 01-16-2004 04:48 PM

Oh sheesh, being an elitist isn't the same as being a fascist.

Thrice 01-16-2004 09:23 PM

Elitist...lol...more like expression of opinions through forceful means.

communication_drive 01-17-2004 01:28 AM

No u gimp, Im stickin up for the common fact of wot emo is not wot it is 2day. Emo now is like pop music, look at brand new, thrice, thursday, there all as mainstream and commerical as celion deion or sum ****e like that.

Abakubud im sorry for callin u alad, but u hav sum taste and u no how i feel on this subject.

Cap'n Jazz old emo wicked

banonbush 01-21-2004 10:14 PM

Sunny Day Real Estate can't be overlooked as a pioneer for the genre. I would recomend listening to them if you want original, good emo.

[Shadowland] 01-22-2004 06:09 AM

Try Finch or FFAF for hardcore screamo. Heh. I'm listening to the obvious emo stuff...like dashboard, taking back sunday and further seems forever

[Shadowland] 01-22-2004 06:10 AM

plus, do you know what GIMP means? *roles eyes*

communication_drive 01-22-2004 10:21 AM

Fich and ffaf are u the gimp, my mums screams better than them, And yes i argee banonbush with all my heart bout sunny day real estate there are a fookin kick ass band and the r legends of emo.

banonbush 01-22-2004 11:07 AM

For some newer emo, but with some older elements, I would check out Hey Mercedes. (hi fives communication guy) Finch is not emo, and they aren't very good anyway. Nicely put communication guy

Emotive 01-27-2004 08:05 AM

anyone heard Saosin?

banonbush 01-27-2004 08:33 AM

yeah, i saw them with senses fail about a month ago, very very good show! i like them a lot

FallenHorizon 02-04-2004 07:01 PM

I'm juss gettin into this on the whole, so I'm lookin into this myself... but if you want something to listen to that you wont deem "theve sold out, gone commerical' or whatnot, listen to Straylight Run...

anthm_dying_day 02-05-2004 04:56 PM

may i reccomend an awesome book i read...called nothing feels good by an author i cant really remember =[ but it was very insightful about the whole evolution of emo all the way from rites of spring to whatever you would like to call it today. some of my favorites: rites of spring, braid, mineral, sunny day real estate, jawbreaker, the promise ring, indian summer, getup kids, elliot.....some of my new favorites : armor for sleep, hey mercades, death cab for cutie, silver stein

banonbush 02-06-2004 02:24 PM

Yeah, Hey Mercedes rocks for real. I recomend them to anyone looking for good emo. Very good music.

Pimp_racer 02-07-2004 08:18 PM

anthm_dying_day 02-07-2004 08:46 PM

dude...wtf? was that directed toward me?

Thrice 02-08-2004 04:41 PM

No He directed it to the banned communication_drive.

anthm_dying_day 02-08-2004 04:44 PM

oh.good....im just a bit of an idiot...

Eltiraaz 02-18-2004 03:59 PM

You cannot honestly compare Thursday and Thrice to Celine Dion!! are you insane? I understand what you mean by some emo becoming a little to washed up in commercialism (dashboard), but thursday and thrice are practically leading the genre!

Punk in Drublic 03-01-2004 02:11 PM

who cares if these bands are mainstream?
has it not occured to u that maybe they are a little mainstream because they are good? emo is not about being underground, nor is it about being popular - it is all about the music - music that is emotionally driven. u cannot classify a band as emo or not based upon who their fans are or how popular they are.

anthm_dying_day 03-01-2004 04:08 PM

thank you thank you thank you thank you...finally!

emocapella 05-30-2004 09:36 AM

Props to Anthm Dying Day (who first introduced me to the emo scene) u r freakin awesome eleni. neway, abakubub, rites of spring was one of the first, but if u really look at it, i think minor threat created the emo genre (even though back then, it was hardcore)

starEied 05-30-2004 09:20 PM

Punk in druplic... perfect i agree with you all the way

David Frost 06-04-2004 09:30 PM

dude, Rites of Spring. First Emo Band

Also check out

Thrice 06-06-2004 03:28 PM

Yup Rites Of Spring are effing awesome....so ahead of their time musically.

David Frost 06-06-2004 06:59 PM

your first post that is not attacking me. for this i am pleased.

heh.

Eltiraaz 06-07-2004 02:10 PM

It wasn't Minor Threat as much as it was Fugazi, Once Minor Threat broke up the vocalist went on to form Fugazi. And they are like the pen-ultimate emo band. emotional, but still hXc.

Thrice 06-07-2004 05:38 PM

my other posts arent "attacking" sorry if it seemed that way, but i have heard alot of people speak false about emo...i am slowly being enlightnend to it all now that im reading that book i suggested...i have been really into music for a long time now, but now i am learning that it is all about the music, instead of us all fighting about whats "emo" and whats not. the labels shouldnt form the music, the music should create the labels...labels are only there to classify the music, otherwise it would be chaos. ie."what kind of music do you like?" "the one with the emotional indulgence lyrics and heartfelt melodies" instead of having to describe your specific iking of music the labels were created, such as emo. sorry if that was hard to understand. i dont know how to put it into words very well... basically what i am trying to say is i didnt mean to be rude and Its alot nicer when people dont criticize others' beliefs. isnt it all based on opinions anyway? what you think is emo or not.

blackemokid 11-17-2004 07:39 PM

i know you wrote this a long time ago but i'm a bit new and i have just seen it. i totally agree with you, it's not if a band, a song or a cd is emo, hardcore, screamo or whatever, it's about if it's good, if it makes you feel something!
