Exclamation Emo vs. Punk Rock

This is for IndieRiot...His standards of Emo differ from mine so I thought I would post my opinions about emo and let you all post yours.

I believe that Emo Music has different styles...There is the kind like Dashboard Confessional and Simple Plan...this I consider pure Emo...in which they do sing about their girlfriends dumping them and such. I also feel there is a more punk influenced Emo, such as Thrusday, Ataris, and From Autumn to Ashes. Which has similar topics, but doesn't have the whiney style...

I feel Punk Rock is more ragged sounding. It has less done to it...sounds the same in concert. Most punk rock is not about the same topics as emo, but more about politics, rebellion, and absolutely nothing. I dont feel Blink or good Charlotte are punk rock.

Let me know what you all think.

I agree for the most part with everythign you are saying. except that simple plan isn't emo, but poppunk, definily pop punk, to a new level of poorness. and that from autumn to ashes is screamo with death metal like vocals. You are definitly correct about good charlotte and blink not being punk, however, blink does play decent music. NOt punk music, but music. Punk is defnintly about politics, and not caring about everything including me and you. just my opinions

I agree with most of what you said. I think Simple Plan is PopPunk, but has alot of Emo influence in thier music.

Yea I agree with what you said about the pure emo and more punk emo, but the bands, I dont really know anything about most of them, so I dunno which are emo and stuff..

Here's a thought; let's stop labeling music and fighting over what genre a certain band is, and start listening to whatever pleases our ears no matter what anyone thinks of it! ;)

sorry, but i simply can't agree with you in this... especially that thursday is punk influenced. i definitly think, that thursday has nothing to do with punk. i can't find any typical punk style in their music... and i known it very well since it's my favorite band ;D i would rather say, that it's emocore. emocore is, in my opinion, simply harder than emo, but still, how you said, with the same topics...
and where i can't agree with you, too, is that you consider the ataris to be emo. in my opinion they do punk rock, just as lagwagon and such... simply the punk music style with "normal" lyrics - lyrics with no topics like rebllion, the system, etc....

well, that's just my opinion, maybe you could think about it...

OMG rme... right on with thursday, finally, someone who likes thursday more than thrice on this forum!!! hehe, just kidding. It's all good. Good job with the emocore, even though thursday has their own spin on it, which makes them my favorite
