- Don't spend money on soda and snacks at gas-stations, it really starts to add up in cost. - Take food with you. A jar of peanut butter and a loaf of bread will last you for days. - Fights are inviteable. Be prepared for the worst, but always have a good time so you can look back at stuff and laugh about it. - Don't be bummed if you play a show for 5 or 10 people. Every band on tour runs into that situation sooner or later. Try to think positive. If you played for 5 people last night, then think of it as an improvement if you play for 10 people the next night. - Bring toilet paper. - Baby Wipe showers. always have some bottled water or a nalgene with water in it. you never know when you'll be sleeping in the van and brushing your teeth on the side of the road or a gas station parking lot. - Don't piss of the locals - Wear a condom, AND pull out - Don't **** with anyone that handles your food - Don't bring either: 1) your girlfriend, or 2) your dog - Always keep your van locked. In larger cities, try backing your vechile near walls so it's impossible to pull gear out, because people can and will try to jack your ****. Try to find places where you can store your gear at night, like a venue or someones house. - Buy a radio shack charger to stick in your car charger... it's cheap, and it'll keep everyone happy (cell phones, iPods, laptop, etc. etc.) - I don't know what the law is over there, but please keep in mind, you can still get a parking ticket while sleeping in your car. - Always try to keep a good reputation and stay positive. This way, you can get a better chance at staying somewhere to sleep at night, and you'll really help build connections for future tours and maybe even make some life-long friends. |
