As for Post-Hardcore bands, I suggest Party Of Helicopters, Braid and Mineral. Braid and Mineral might be considered "emo" but whatever, I don't care. There are others that I can't think of now. If anything comes up, I'll be sure to chime in. |
Listen to Hoover. I think you would like Small Brown Bike / The Casket Lottery / Able Baker Fox.

do Gray Matter, Soulside and Fire Party fit in?
|
I'd think Gray Matter and Fire Party fit into the same category as Rites of Spring and the rest of D.C. in the mid 80s. But whatev, Gray Matter is a very good band. I'm a sucker for their Beatles cover.

I love Gray Matter so much more than RoS. I have no idea why people go ape**** for RoS, and they overlook Gray Matter. Gray Matter's "Take It Back" EP is a perfect blueprint for screamo and emo for years to come. Thick, pronounced basslines, strained, almost screaming vocals at times. Plus, RoS never wrote a song half as good as "Head." That song in itself contains so many aspects of hardcore that are still prevalent in screamo its hard to believe that they were a Revolution Summer band. This band was miles above the other mid 80's DC bands.
