and ethan, i doubt you've ever heard Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child. excuse me for liking a metalcore band with great lyrics and unique compositions who manage to incorporate post-metal and sludge into their music. I have 22 hours of screamo on my PC, and it is as generic and formulaic--if not moreso--as any other genre out there. HHLL are neither generic nor formulaic, so maybe you guys don't know what "real music" is, which is an ignorant statement in the first place. |

there are a lot of screamo bands that stick to their octave chords like metalcore acts stick to their breakdowns. and oh my geez solid state signs the best bands, probably my favorite label!!!! I like the bands that are still characterized as being a specific genre but gravitate away from the things that make that genre a stereotype. I personally cant stand the overuse of the ochtave chord just like I cant stand gratuitous breakdowns. Heavy Heavy low low is a popular band that a lot of people with tastes in the metalcore scene listen to. Bands that are mainly about playing octaves and breakdowns in their songs have little talent and are merely a novelty in their given scenes. Heavy Heavy Low Low isnt all about breakdowns even though most people that listen to them are only interested in their breakdowns haha. They have untraditional time signatures and chords for the scene that they are thrown into. I think a lot of people dont like them and call them generic because theyre associated with the bandana and ammo belt wearing, two stepping throwdown hxc dancing crowd. Gawd I dislike a lot of metalcore though, its become some new form of disco. I guess thats why As The Sun Sets stopped playing breakdowns nonstop after Each Individual Voice Is Dead.

...regardless of what they sound like, any band that abandons their d.i.y. ethic is just another lame sellout and doesn't have my support.
The lyrics are ridiculous and thoughtless. It is pretty apparent they don't take themselves seriously, which isn't necessarily a bad thing (particularly if you are just looking to cash in on the "metalcore" trend). I still don't understand why people try to convert all these different art forms into jobs... |
