Am I just retarded or something, because I don't see the correlation between grindcore and punk. Maybe its because I don't really listen to punk that often, but I just don't get it... I hear almost no similarities.

grindcore stemmed from punk but that doesnt mean you can really say that grindcore sounds like punk because of course it doesnt, if it did, it would be punk. But one thing that grindcore has in common with hardcore punk and thrash is the fast tempo drums that is typical of the 80's hardcore punk scene. The screaming of course comes from subgenres of metal and the guitar comes from metal most of the time as well.

I find people who like grind lean towards hardcore.
Adonis Battlefield is the only band close to grind I can stand because they mush emo up in their songs.

Old Cutting Pink With Knives I consider Grindcore... but I only like their newer stuff ("Populuxxe") Which, I suppose still has it's hard moment but not anywhere close as it use to be.
I enjoy Napalm Death's "the code is red..." but I don't really consider it Grindcore like the well known "Scum" is. I think it still has a pinch of grindcore, compared to the stuff they were doing in the 90s. I've really grown out of grind the past 2 years. You can only take so much of it. Every once in a while a band comes around that sparks interest, but otherwise... |

I can hear the punk influence in true grind, as well as the thrash/crossover influence.
