Default Emo is very contradictory to punk so why do you stake claim to it.

just as a forward i dont listen to emo, but im trying to understand it

Everywhere i go i see generic emo bands listed under the "punk" section of iTunes, and even this forum is listed under the punk category, but as i understood the 1970s punk movments core attitude was to be unaccepted and fight the establishment. So how does a movment that is marketed down to a dime, and sings only about trying to be accepted any honor to the name of punk? its kind of frustrating to see such pop-scene music claim their roots in anti-pop, is it for the image or the soul?
