It doesn't get proper attention. I'm bringing it here to help the uneducated, except I'm nothing like Don.

Probably because most people are smart enough to not like emo music. Most people dont dwell over unimportant things makeing their life out to be worse than everyone elses. News flash emo boys...LIFE SUCKS!
Get over it. Wearing tight close, makeup, black nailpolish, and cutting arent ways of expressing yourself. Sorry if im leading this thread more towars my own personal beliefs on emoness so let me bash the music now. Emo music is a sad exscuse for people with no talent to strike it big. It is the easy way out for most bands. In emo/screamo you dont have to have talent to make it big, just depressed followers that flunked outa school and pretend like they can relate to the music just because there girlfriend dumped you or your parents wont let you smoke pot. Anyway, emo bands like to pretend that there life is more depressing than anyone elses. If you want depressing go to Africa or parts of the middle east where AK-47s are being put into kids hands and sent to battle. Now if that is your life than you have all rights to say your life sucks.

So you missed out on my sarcasm about the girls pants, and even though you've never read ANY of those bands on my list's lyrics (let alone listen to them) you still put in your uneducated misguided opinions. Kudos to you.

Give these bands a listen, and tell me if they fit your idea of what "emo" music is.

It is though... historically accurate. Not "mall emo" which is really like indie emo (ex. Sunny Day Real Estate, Capn Jazz) that slowly fell away from any attachment with its roots. The media likes to latch onto the term though and label anything with a whiny singer and annoyingly untalented guitars as emo.
