I created this group several months ago with no definite purpose in mind. However, now that I have figured out how to post a new discussion, I thought that we could perhaps expand our numbers and discuss grammar idiosyncrasies, misuses, and other related topics on a regular basis. Let me know what you think.

Guys, I have a confession: I may not know anything about grammar.

Judging by your posts, I'd say you do. This isn't an uber-serious thing anyways. Only for the purpose of some fun. :)

Here's what I've come up with after toying with Trollheart's and LeHetfield's ideas a bit:

Suppose we announce to MB that a certain week will be "grammar week". We expand to ten members and have a competition to see who can find the most "infractions" in that time period. When you find an "infraction", post it here. Non-Grammar Nazis can only receive one "infraction" per week. Whoever has the most at the end of the week wins. However, if you A) are caught using incorrect grammar by any member, or B) hand out an unjustified "infraction", you lose a point.

That sounds kinda fun. But just as Mr. Hetfield, I wouldn't consider myself a grammar expert. English is my second language, that's my excuse.

I would introduce it thusly:

Achtung, grammar schweinhunds! For too long zis forum has been plagued by inconsiderate and incorrect use of ze vords "your" and "its", sloppy spelling und vith a callous disregard for our friend ze apostrophe. Vell, zat is about to change!

The Grammar Nazis are in charge now, und ve vill be vatching you very carefully indeed... clean up your act or you may expect a visit from us in ze dead of night!

Zat is all. You vill not see nor hear us, but rest assured: ve are ALVAYS vatching! (We might want to can the German "v for w" idea, it's a bit mad but fun still...)

Also: vin fantastic prizes by turning in anyvun you know (or suspect, ve vill accept suspicion, substantiated or not) of using bad grammar or spelling.

Remember, it is your duty as a responsible citizen! And you know, ZEY voudl turn YOU in in a SECOND.... ;)

Sounds excellent, TH! I just have to hear from Plankton. Who else should we invite? You mentioned Batlord, LeHetfield, and I think he would be perfect. Should we allow mods?

I'm usually too busy to do much of anything but post a few things, but I'll do what I can.

I've no problem inviting mods. I think we should give people a chance to join if they want; put it in a thread or add it to that one I talked about. Generally you'll know who's good with their grammar and spelling, but whether or not they want to be involved in something like this is up to them.
