I could see where you might feel that way about some of his solo stuff (though I disagree), but he also has stuff like Tomahawk that's just fun rocking out material.

How do you get that out of any Faith No More album?

That's more Mr Bungle now that I think of it, yes. What I got out of the one FNM album I remember trying to listen to on a couple of occasions was that it's not for me.

Put differently, I have doubts re Patton's ability to pen a melody as beautiful and unpretentious as this

I don't know what would make a melody pretentious or not pretentious, but I will say that song doesn't really do much for me.

What's Norg's top ten says to me is that Norg does not understand the concept of a top ten! Four or five artists in one spot? It's more like a top 20 or 25!

But since we appear to be doing them, and I'm sure everyone needs a Christmas laugh, here's mine, in no particular order. Hold your gasps of surprise. No, really.

1. Genesis (mostly Gabriel era)
2. Marillion
3. Tom Waits
4. Bon Jovi
5. Nanci Griffith
6. Threshold
7. Pendragon
8. Vangelis
9. Judie Tzuke
10. Mostly Autumn

Now, I'm off into a corner to sulk.

In one spot? What do you mean?

I'm sure Trollheart is referring to list entries like this:

What Norg's list says to me is that there are a lot of bands out there that I have never heard of, so thanks to TH for putting up some reassuringly familiar names - and yet, by Noel Gallagher standards, TH has come up with a list ranging far and wide across countries, genres and eras. I can easily imagine NG seeing TH's list and saying, "Wow! I am bewildered by the eclecticism of this Trollheart chap."
