What instruments are playing? :)

This thread is for questions about what instruments are playing.

In Criminal by Fiona Apple, there is a clanging sound in the very beginning. I think it sounds like a cymbal, but I am not sure. As I write this, it might even be a high hat drum....

In Welcome To The Jungle by Guns N'Roses, there is a sound that sounds like,"woo, woo," towards the end. I think a Guns N'Roses Fan said this is a Snare, but I am not sure.

I hear this sound crop up all the time in music from the 80's and 90's mostly, but don't know if it's acoustic or electronic in origin. Hopefully someone with more production/mixing knowledge can enlighten me here
