Well I guess ideally the bodyguard is supposed to be covering all angles, like circling back and forth, but he or she would be first through the door, checking exits, shielding the client when getting into a car and so forth. Of course, if you're rich like Axl Rose you probably have more than one bodyguard, so you could have one behind and one ahead.
