Searching for music soulmates
Music connects people, is meant to be shared. If you love music like me, you will understand how can I talk 24/7 about it. For sure, you have had songs that you can’t stop listening to on repeat. And surely, you have ever felt the magic when someone shares with you a song that touches you deep inside.
So the question is: why nobody has ever thought about building a social music streaming platform to be the house of all the music lovers out there? We use Spotify/Youtube/etc. as tools: want to listen to a song? perfect, open Spotify and in seconds, you'll be playing that hit that makes you dance like Shakira. Fast and easy. But why don’t use the same platform to find music soulmates? To connect with them, to share our passion for music, to discover through people recommendations. Com on music lovers, we deserve a new concept of a music streaming platform! |

Nah. This site doesn't stream music.
Plus, music is sooo low down on the scale of interests here that it doesn't really qualify. As for the OP, there are sites that mix streaming and social talk - it's just that this person hasn't managed to find them yet. I already spend too much time at at least two of them already. |

No, I wasn't referring to streaming and social talk either. I was more about things like what Last.fm has tried to do. A place where through your consumption of music you can create a musical identity that allows you to connect with people with similar tastes as yours. Once connected, the possibilities are infinite: from being able to talk in the form of chat to or get better recommendations for new music, to be able to challenge each other to see who knows more about an artist, song, etc.
With the arrival of the digital world, the collectable part (or the fandom) has also been lost. So this platform could allow you to create an avatar or a space where you could collect stickers, tickets to the concerts you have gone to, or exclusive things to prove that you've been among the top 100 to discover an artist, etc. Things that true music lovers are proud of and want to show to others. The big problem is that all this has to be inside the same platform that is used to listen to music, and getting the licenses for that is far more than difficult... |

So if you’re really not “referring to streaming and social talk,”
then none of what you’re saying makes any sense. If there’s no streaming involved, then I guess you’re supposed to just tell people what you’ve been listening to lately and what you’re currently listening to (thru words or posting pix or vids like we do here - yeah, that’s fine) - and if there’s no “social talk,” then who are you supposed to convey this info to? In some ways, our new “bob…” is correct that this place could fill that function: telling people what you’re listening to, then getting no response in reply. I’m not sure that the part about congratulating inflated egos and “challenging” people are such great ideas either - especially calling them “true music lovers.” Last edited by rostasi; 11-26-2021 at 08:51 AM. |

They tried that with "Connect,"
but shut that down three years ago. There wasn't enough interest. Kinda went the way of iTunes "Ping." I still love JQBX and, sometimes, BeatSense. There's a few others, but JQBX, especially, is almost like having your own radio station with "24/7" sharing and swapping ideas about all kinds of music. It can take up a lot of your day if you're into sharing, but even if you're not always there, your own special room can have a bot that plays any playlist you want to set up for others to hear. There are more like that out there. I think Mr. Sandals should put on some proper shoes and start walking. |
