Looking for music videos with this specific content
Hi my name is Chloe! I am studying film at the University of Oregon, and I need some help: can anyone here send me music videos where girls hang their heads upside down over the side of a bed, talking on the phone or watching tv or something? Or sit in a chair upside down? I was trying to do a case study on this concept in 1980s movies, but the 80s people I talked to were surprisingly hostile about it and didn't help a ton. I’ve gotten some help from movie folks now, but I’m curious to look into music videos too. Thanks!! <3

I'm sure you won't encounter any hostility here, Chloe: we're really friendly. And if you don't think so I'll kick your head in.
It's a pretty specific topic; I imagine the likes of pop divas like Britney and Ariana Grande and so on, but quite hard to pin down. I looked at this one from Cyndi Lauper, but while there's a good deal of head wagging, no upside-down stuff. I would expect songs where the girl is talking on the phone about boys or something, and I would imagine upbeat rather than sad songs, but not an easy thing to research really. I'll keep looking. Welcome to MB! TH

I would guess something that you are describing, Chloe, would be found in pop videos for the most part. Maybe someone like Debbie Gibson. You may have picked the wrong decade for girls hanging upside down, etc. You see a lot of that sort of thing in sixties media more so than the eighties actually (The Patty Duke Show comes to mind). Eighties culture was too wrapped up in trying to look cool I think and something like hanging upside down on the bed wouldn't have cut it.

I can definitely see examples in my mind, but when I go to check them out, that's not them. Not a lot of help I know. I'd concentrate on maybe college/high school movies and videos, as I said, ones with girls talking to their pals on the phone from their bedroom etc. As for chairs, well, Irene Cara does use one in this, but I don't think she hangs off it upside down.
Edit: not as many chairs as I thought, it would seem. Oh well. Actually, it seems there are a lot of scenes in Flashdance with chairs; might be worth checking out? Why such an odd subject, if you don't mind me asking?

The first song that came to mind was Bangles' In Your Room but I just checked out their music video and there wasn't anything like that.

The first song that came to mind was Queen's I Want to Break Free but I just checked out their music video and even though Freddie wakes up in bed he doesn't use the telephone. However he does run the vacuum cleaner/Hoover.

Help me with my music video homework assignment please?
I asked a similar question a few days ago, and I am posting a reworded version of it that better describes my situation. It has to do with my cultural film class and studying different tropes/cliches, and this is the specific topic I was assigned to research and document.
Hi my name is Chloe! I am studying film at the University of Oregon, and I need some help: can anyone here send me music videos where girls hang upside down, either singing, or otherwise. Over the side of a bed, in a chair, on monkey bars, whatever you can think of. I tried asking some other folks on other sites, and was met with a surprising amount of hostility! But so far everyone here has been SO cool! Any help is very appreciated! Thanks!! <3 |

Your name isn't Chloe and you don't go to UO. The truth is that you're an opioid-addicted truck driver who has a fetish for girls hanging upside down. You've already seen every single image of girls hanging upside down available on the internet, and by now the only way you can get your rocks off is for strangers to talk to you about girls hanging upside down. Girls hanging upside down.
You've come to the right place, Steve. MusicBanter legend Trollheart has a huge collection of pics of girls hanging upside down, including from various snuff films, where the poor girls, who are hanging upside down, have their lives, well, snuffed out. They're not singing, that's for sure. But they're still hanging upside down! |
