I'll probably say Tim Buckley, for the time being.

The direction my music is most closely aligned with is more of a folk nature, and the man's career was admirable. He moved through folk, folk-rock, psych-folk, avant-garde, dabbling in "free jazz textures", and funk. All before his death at the age of 28.

While I'd prefer to live far longer than 28, I'd like to be that sort of musician who is able to evolve and grow as an artist and not stagnate, whilst still producing interesting and quality material.

Rock - Freddie Mercury, obviously.

Electronica - toughie because there's so many budding artists that blow me away. But I'm going to go with a Justice/boys noise combo. They're filthy.

Pop - lady gaga has absolutely conquered pop.

That's probably the only genres I listen to and know anything about so I'm leaving it there.

Elliott Smith

The Velvet Underground.

I've always found his music to be boring, but I'll admit what he did was very unique and interesting... So, I naturally have a lot of respect for him. If you really like his work, then I recommend you try Erica Pomerance. Albeit, she only recorded one album, but it's somewhat similar to Buckley's experimental phase.
