Wow. I hadn't heard about this. Just listened to a snippet of the song and it's lousy. (And to think I posted a Van Morrison tune on the "Feel Good" songs thread while my daughter was recovering from Covid. I actually had her struggle and the pandemic in mind when I posted the song - ugh. )

Stairway would’ve been twice as interesting if Jeff Beck and Clapton were out there harmonizing with him right from the get-go. It shows how bloated Page’s ego is that he has those two at his disposal and doesn’t bring them out until the end. I also think Page kind of blew the solo on Layla. It even looked like Beck looks at him sideways for just a split second before saving the day.

I don't care for the "Beano" album I think it's over-hyped. But I like other John Mayall albums -- so go figure. Talking about John Mayall, I think Peter Green and Mick Taylor are just as good or even better guitar players than EC. But most Boomers just rave about Beano ... but no. I don't think it's worth hating on E.C. cause he did contributed some good stuff with Cream, Blind Faith, and Derek & the Dominos, a one off performance with The Dirty Mac and song colab with The Beatles.

Peter Green...ok, I like him, I listen to "Green's era" Fleetwood Mac, but I wouldn't say he was better than Clapton, although I think they're at the same level and comparable. And Mick Taylor...I mean, the guy from The Rolling Stones...You've probably already read what I think about them in the "What sucks about The Rolling Stones" thread... While My Guitar Gently Weeps is such a good song! The Beatles + Eric Clapton, I almost cried with joy when I read about it. Last edited by Eleanor Rigby 14; 01-16-2021 at 07:09 AM. |
