This song works as both a ringtone and an alarm (mostly for the beginning part)

It depends on the music and lyrics of the song. If the music and lyrics are good then the chances of making a ringtone are increased.

I use kopmusik by C418 as my alarm on weekdays and phleps by C418 as my alarm on weekends.

I think today it is not so popular. More and more people use standard ringtone. I remember 15 years ago it was mainstream.
