OK I just realised the version I know, was remixed by Fatboy Slim so that explains why I think it sounds like dance music.

The original is more like Britpop. The remix was the one that was a hit, I don't even think I've heard the original until just now tbh.

If Buck Rogers counts, I'd have that as one of the best Britpop songs. Makes me feel happy whenever I hear it. Great tune.

Oh yeah, Elastica totally ripped off Wire, but I don't care. If Nirvana can rip off Killing Joke who ripped off The Damned, then Elastica can definitely rip off Wire.
