How Novel Coronavirus/Covid19 Has Your Perception of Music?
Because all what's happening there are certain lyrics I'll never hear the same way again. Has the Novel Coronavirus/Covid19 changed your perception of certain songs? What are some lyric, song titles, or videos because of the Novel Coronavirus you'll never think the same of again?
The Police - Don't Stand So Close to Me I can't help but think of social distancing with this one. Disturbed - Down With The Sickness It is sooo dated now. That song is so not cool any longer. No, I am not "down" with the sickness. Band of Horses - Dilly lyrics: "Take the mask off ... when you speak to me." I was listen to this in plug.dj the other week. I couldn't help but think 'man, that totally means something different now.' I guess DJ Supreme is wrapped in elastic bandages cause he doesn't have a face mask? Then I thought wait a minute this was filmed years ago.

It makes me think there’s a real chance I’ll never see another live show again.

It's gonna be a while. Maybe in the meantime it'll spark a wave of danger music where the artist attacks the crowd for irresponsibly gathering.

Thanks to the internet, it's mostly stayed the same. It's not like the olden times when you have to go out of the house to get your fix. I do really miss going to concerts though, and dancing with strangers in clubs and shows. People keep telling me about live stream shows, but those aren't the same, and I'd rather watch them when they go up without having to deal with connection dropout or ****ty audio.
I'm a bit of an awkward weirdo, so I miss the physicality of being in a room full of people where you all have something in common, and can talk to them about anything (if there's a bar for me it at least makes it easier to get liquid courage.) If I can take anything away from the pandemic, and how I feel about music, it's that my appreciation for live venues and music bars and how I need those experiences to really be happy. Edit: Sorry, I misunderstood the question. I'm trying not to associate anything specific with the pandemic as I desperately try and avoid having any negative connotations attached to what I like. I can't listen to Maailma, or Spiritualized anymore for... reasons. |

I've been half-jokingly thinking about that for the past couple of months. It does make me wonder what the venues (especially the smaller venues) are going to do about making changes in their seating and standing room (when they reopen) though. |

Maybe concerts in the year 2021 will be all Tiny Desk, NPR and KEXP?

My perceptions of the music itself haven't changed. But COVID-19 has made me much more keenly aware--and I wasn't exactly oblivious to it previously--of how precarious things are for musicians who aren't superstars, who play the smaller venues, who are dependent on touring and resulting merch sales in order to make a living. If bands like The Rolling Stones have to postpone a tour due to the pandemic, it's a minor annoyance at most. They're already rich and don't need the money. But for those musicians that play the clubs, it can mean having to abandon music for another line of work (not easy during a time of high unemployment) or even financial ruin.
I've been fortunate to be able to keep working (though I had to take a pay cut to do so). Once I sort out a couple of upcoming major expenses and have some more discretionary income, I'm going to buy some music or merch from some of my favorite musician's websites in order to help, even in a small way. Hopefully a lot of other music fans will do the same. |

It sucks that anyone should have to have a job but I don’t have any more sympathy for musicians than anyone else.
For anyone to do some menial **** job is a tragic loss of a human life. I’ll give ten dollars to a person with nothing who contributes nothing before I give it to someone with instruments and computers and ****. There’s too much ****ing music as it is.

Both my son and I contracted the virus (fortunately his symptoms were milder than mine and he recovered relatively quickly; it took a few weeks for me to recover). Anyway, we are both fine now but have major cabin fever, as do many others. Being on a Stones-related thread just now reminded me of this tune and granted new perspective: "Get up, get out, into something new!"
