Current albums and EPs I've really been enjoying (some not so much but those are included too) |
Been really enjoying these three albums a lot this year.
https://rateyourmusic.com/release/al...t-to-eternity/ Super super cool lofi indie/noise combination that I haven't heard done nearly this well before. Probably gonna be a constant rotation album once it officially comes out. https://rateyourmusic.com/release/al...the-kinspiral/ p. rosa has become one of my favorite artists over the last year after I heard his vaporwave/post rock fusion album Bioconcrete. He has a really interesting style that feels at once synthetic and organic, like experiencing hyper realistic VR simulations of different cities. His new album album The Kinspiral feels like a sequel to Bioconcrete in a way, but the city being set far in some post apocalyptic future where nature has retaken this virtual office building. Wonderful experience even if its patience testing. https://rateyourmusic.com/release/dj...ain-your-life/ A really interesting new boundary in post internet music has been the emergence of lo-bit music as a purposeful stylistic choice. Using the bit crush technique to turn trap/cloud rap songs into incredible icy noise and ambient soundscapes. Would love to see this style really gather a strong aesthetic and become a phenomenon similar to vaporwave. Also hey everyone |

Parenthetical by Innesti
https://innesti.bandcamp.com/album/parenthetical It’s become very common to use water as an instrument in ambient. It’s effective: rain sounds, waves, brooks, splashing - so now it’s about finding who’s better at playing water: it’s done well on this release. |

Music to Be Murdered By by Eminem
Absolutely floored by what a brilliant masterpiece this is. Completely mesmerizing. 5/5 unassailable. |

That Poppy album was better and less gimmicky than I was expecting, but still left me wanting.

The level of Brockhampton love in the past was a bit of a surprise to me, even though they're great. Would be interested to know what hip-hop OH dislikes, can't think of time I've seen him talking about it where he wasn't praising an artist or album. |
I’m sort of luke warm on frowny’s Shabazz Palaces.
I think To Pimp a Butterfly is boring. ADHD is the only KL I like. As for Kanye his early Golddigga single and his new gospel record are the only ones I like. Twisted bores me to tears. I think I’ll probably like “Ye” when I revisit it. I don’t think I’ve liked anything Eminem has done since his second LP and this new one. I hate that addiction recovery record that Bat likes. I love early Tribe but their comeback thing was sad iirc. It’s looking like Fetish Bones was a one off. Saul Williams has made some very bad music. Oh yeah... I remember being bored silly listening to Lupe Fiasco ***I reserve the right to change my mind about anything or to just be plain wrong or to contradict myself New hip hop artists like Billy Woods and PEGGY have finally broken the minstrel show model and have discovered ways to be entertaining post Biggie without catering to white suburban wankoffs to black on black violence (citing examples to contradict this theory won’t impress me) ***Don’t Do Drugs*** |
Ja Saul Williams should stick to poetry.

Fair. I like Shabazz Palaces but they're a bit overhyped for me too.
What exactly is it that impressed you so much with Em's new release? Also I think it's relapse you're thinking of that Bat likes. It was the album after Recovery. And it's ****ing awesome. |

Some of the verses he spits are so virtuosic that it seems almost supernatural That doesn’t mean I’m saying he’s the best or anything but he has a certain dexterity that is truly his own Rap is more than that but it’s still mind blowing Plus the album is creepy as hell really unnerving |
This album fucks.

Gil Scott-Heron & Makaya McCraven - We're New Again: A Reimagining By Makaya McCraven I think that I prefer the original but this is still a really great rework of Scott-Heron's work. Definitely worth your time if you're a fan of either artist or spoken word jazz. |
^ I'm a huge Makaya fan (was just spinning Universal Beings a few nights ago) - can't wait to hear this.

Holographic Dreamtime by khora | I≤ µ ø Я ∆
Percussive psychedelic ambient drone. https://khora.bandcamp.com/album/holographic-dreamtime This is really good |
They are a band from Moscow. The vocals are a little bit different but don't let that deter you. The music is pretty good.
